Pepper is also known as horn pepper, long pepper, sweet pepper, and bell pepper. When immature it is green, and when ripe it turns red, orange, or purplish red, with a spicy or sweet taste. Peppers can also be grown in pots, so how do you fertilize potted peppers?

1. How to fertilize potted peppers

1. Base fertilizer

Fertilizing the seedling pots is mainly about preparing the seedling soil. The growing medium must be fertile soil, and fertilizer must be applied sufficiently, otherwise it will affect the later growth of the peppers. During the seedling stage, apply additional fertilizer 1-2 times depending on the growth.

2. Top dressing

Growing peppers requires multiple rounds of top dressing on the basis of sufficient base fertilizer. When the fruits begin to swell, apply a “fruit-promoting fertilizer.” Once the plant enters the full fruiting stage, apply fertilizer after each harvest, for a total of 3 times. After entering the full fruiting stage, the root system's ability to absorb fertilizer declines. Spray once a week, for a total of three sprays, which helps delay aging, extend the harvest period, and improve fruit quality.

2. Pepper fertilization tips

1. Apply plenty of organic fertilizer

During the growing period, apply more decomposed organic fertilizer. You can add some enzyme bacteria fertilizer-type biological organic fertilizer. If soil-borne diseases are severe, you can add some Bacillus-type biological organic fertilizer.

2. Choose chemical fertilizers reasonably

When using chemical fertilizers as base fertilizer, try to choose single-element fertilizers, such as urea, superphosphate, and potassium sulfate. When applying compound fertilizer as top dressing, try to choose compound fertilizer containing nitrate nitrogen.

3. Distribute base fertilizer reasonably

Generally, mix organic fertilizer, micronutrient fertilizer, 80% of the phosphorus fertilizer, 50% of the potassium fertilizer, and 30% of the nitrogen fertilizer evenly and use as base fertilizer, while the remaining 70% of the nitrogen fertilizer, 20% of the phosphorus fertilizer, and 50% of the potassium fertilizer are used as top dressing. Some trace elements can be sprayed on the leaves.

Pepper is an important vegetable and condiment. The seed oil is edible, and the fruit also has deworming and diaphoretic effects.
