How do mung beans disperse their seeds? A detailed explanation of mung bean seed dispersal methods
Mung beans disperse their seeds by elastic force. After mung beans mature, they burst open and automatically eject the seeds; people call this method of seed dispersal ballistic dispersal. The natural dispersal of many plant seeds relies on this method. So, how do you grow mung beans?
1. How to grow mung beans
1. Land preparation and fertilisation
Before planting mung beans, prepare the seedbed in advance, about a week ahead. When turning and loosening the soil, dig deeper so that pests in the soil can be eliminated; after turning, spread an appropriate amount of base fertiliser, then level the seedbed.
2. Sowing the seeds
Before planting, mix the seeds with a resistance agent and stir them so that all the seeds are coated with the agent, which can prevent and control pests and diseases. When planting, dig a small hole every 30 to 50 cm and sow 3 to 4 seeds in it. Then scatter a little compound fertiliser beside the small hole and cover it with soil, which helps the seeds germinate. Transplant when 4 to 5 leaves have grown.
3. Later care
Once the transplants have established, weed the area to avoid weeds competing with the plants for nutrients. Also, note that no fertiliser is needed during its growth process; if fertility is sufficient, it will cause excessive growth, affect the flowering period, and then reduce the yield, which is not worth the loss.
