The simplest way to grow hotbed chives (yellow chives): how are hotbed chives grown
AbstractSoil preparation and bed making: the bed width is 2.2m and the length is 30m. Sowing and seedling raising: soak the seeds in warm water not exceeding 53°C, and after soaking for 1 hour, mix the seeds with 2-3‰ carbendazim wettable powder, with a seeding rate of 2.5kg per mu. Seedling stage management: when 80% of the hotbed chives have emerged, remove the plastic film in time. Planting: apply an appropriate amount of farmyard manure, superphosphate, urea, potassium sulfate, etc. per mu. Harvesting: after the 1st harvest, expose them to the sun by day and cover them at night for 2-3 days.
1. Soil preparation and bed making
Hotbed chives have relatively strong adaptability and do not have very high soil requirements, but try not to choose continuous cropping land, or land previously planted with scallions or ginger, for cultivation. The seedling bed width is 1-1.4m. When preparing the soil, apply no base fertilizer or only a small amount, turn the soil about 30cm deep, after turning use a rake to level it, then gently tread it flat. The planting bed should be prepared on dry land, and dry beds should be furrowed and watered. Generally the bed width is 2.2m and the length is about 30m.
2. Sowing and seedling raising
Generally, the seeds need to be treated before sowing. Soak the seeds in warm water not exceeding 53°C, stirring continuously while soaking until the temperature drops to room temperature, then stop stirring. After soaking for 1 hour, mix the seeds with 2-3‰ carbendazim wettable powder and set aside for use. Before sowing, water the seedling bed thoroughly, then sow the seeds evenly. After sowing, cover with sifted topsoil 0.5-1cm deep and tread it flat in time, spray with herbicides such as glyphosate, then cover well with plastic film and press the sides firm with soil. Generally the seeding rate is 2.5kg per mu.
3. Seedling stage management
When 80% of the hotbed chives have emerged, remove the plastic film in time. When the seedlings grow to 2-3 leaves, thin them once. When they grow to about 5 leaves, water once every 5-7 days, and at the same time apply urea as a topdressing with the water in 2 applications at 7.5-12.5kg per mu. Do not water in the 5-7 days before transplanting.
4. Planting
1. When planting hotbed chives, it is necessary to grasp the moisture of the bed soil. Apply an appropriate amount of farmyard manure per mu, together with 20kg of biological fertilizer, 150kg of superphosphate, 20kg of urea or diammonium phosphate, and 35kg of potassium sulfate, and mix the fertilizer and soil thoroughly and evenly.
2. When the hotbed chives have grown 4-5 leaves, transplant them at a reasonable density. The planting depth should be appropriate. After planting, spread 5% phoxim granules and 25% carbendazim wettable powder along the ridges over the chive roots, which helps prevent pests and diseases. During the growth period, hotbed chives have relatively large fertilizer and water needs, so fertilizer should be applied reasonably according to the different stages.
5. Harvesting
1. Generally after the 1st harvest, expose them to the sun by day and cover them at night for 2-3 days, then cover them day and night for 3-5 days. After that, the management is the same as for the 1st harvest, except that an appropriate amount of chemical fertilizer can be applied as a topdressing when watering.
2. After harvesting 3-4 times, around the Spring Equinox, the chive roots can be dug out and planted in the field in furrows with a row spacing of 23-26cm, a plant spacing of 1-2cm, and a depth such that the chive roots are 1 finger below the ground surface. After planting, gently press the soil firm. Around the Minor Snow solar term, dig the roots out again and put them into trenches. They can be used continuously for 2-3 years.
