“One horse raises red dust, the concubine smiles, no one knows it is the lychee arriving” - this is about our lychee. In ancient times, even for a concubine to eat lychee was extremely difficult, but with the continuous development of our society, lychee is now fairly common, though eating fresh lychee still requires some care.

How Long Does It Take for Lychee Seeds to Germinate

The germination rate of lychee is very high. In hot weather, if lychee seeds are soaked in water for 3-5 days, the seeds will split open, and then planting them in a pot makes germination very easy. The seeds must be washed completely clean, and the water needs to be changed every day so the seeds do not rot.

Can Lychee Pits Be Planted

Lychee pits can of course be planted to grow lychee saplings. However, to grow delicious lychee, careful cultivation is still needed. To ensure the germination rate, before planting lychee, the seeds should be processed, because the seed coat of lychee is too thick, which is not favorable for sprouting. The method is to file the seed coat until the endosperm is reached, taking care to protect the embryo, then soak in warm water at 50°C for 12 hours, remove and wash off the sticky liquid.

Bury the processed lychee seeds in a sand pot prepared in advance, with a sand covering depth of 1-2 cm for lychee, not too deep. Water thoroughly (5-20 seeds per pot is best, because some will not germinate). The sand pot should be placed in a damp, dark place. When the sand starts to dry, add a little water. After about a week, the lychee pits begin to germinate.

Since lychee is not suitable for long-term cultivation in pots, it is recommended to transplant it into the ground the following spring.
