How to prevent litchi fruit cracking? Cultivation and control methods
1. Root pruning and girdling In the late stage of fruit development, the method of root pruning and girdling the main branches is used to weaken root activity, which is very effective in reducing fruit cracking. However, the measures must be timely and appropriate; excessive control of root growth is detrimental to normal fruit development and to the rapid recovery of tree vigor after harvest.
2. Balanced supply of the nutrients needed during fruit development In addition to a balanced supply of the three elements nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, trace elements such as calcium, boron, zinc, and copper must also be supplemented in time, but an excessive supply of nitrogen will make the plant's vegetative growth too vigorous, increasing the root system's ability to absorb fertilizer and water, and causing the flesh to grow too rapidly. 3. Use of plant growth regulators Spray the fruit clusters with naphthaleneacetic acid at 30×0.000001 during the flower bud stage or after flower drop, and before fruit coloring; if supplemented with foliar fertilizer, fungicide spraying, and bagging and other measures, the anti-cracking effect will be better. When the fruit is the size of a mung bean, spray the fruit with ethephon at 10×0.000001, and spray once more after 1 month, which can reduce fruit cracking. In the early stage of fruit cracking, spray the fruit clusters with ethephon at 80×0.000001 after the morning dew has dried, which can enhance the elasticity of the peel, inhibit the rapid growth of the flesh, make the peel soft, and reduce fruit cracking. Spray young fruits with cytokinin at 30×0.000001 15 days and 30-40 days after the female flowers fade, which can promote cell division and normal development of the peel and avoid fruit cracking. 4. Carry out pest and disease control well Pest and disease damage will increase the fruit cracking rate, especially the peel of fruits infected by downy blight, which is often the breakthrough point for peel cracking; it should be controlled early, and fruits that have already cracked should be removed in time.
