How to Grow Peanut Sprouts in Substrate Cultivation? A Detailed Guide to the Method
1. Production Site, Equipment and Substrate Materials Production can be carried out in open fields or greenhouses where the temperature is maintained at 12°C to 30°C and the soil pH is 5.5 to 7.5. Any water-leaking container can be used, and the substrate can be soil, sand, sawdust, etc.
2. Seed Selection For producing peanut sprouts, choose medium-sized varieties with low oil content, and use new peanut seeds produced in the current year. Remove shriveled, moldy, insect-damaged, already-sprouted, and broken seeds. Rinse the seeds 2 to 3 times, then soak them in water for 6 to 8 hours, stirring and turning them once every two hours, until the peanuts absorb water and swell. Then soak them in 3% lime water for 5 minutes, immediately remove them, and rinse them clean with warm water. Alternatively, disinfect them with a 0.1% bleaching powder solution for 10 minutes, then remove them and rinse them clean with warm water.
3. Germination Promotion Remove the soaked peanut seeds, rinse them several times in clean water, put them into breathable mesh gauze bags, then place them in a container with drainage holes and cover them tightly with a wet cloth; water them 5 to 6 times per day and night with water at 20°C to 25°C.
4. Preparation of the Cultivation Bed The cultivation bed can be built with bricks, and soil, sand or sawdust can be spread evenly inside the bed, or a flat bed can be made directly.
5. Cultivation When the peanut sprout roots are 0.5 to 1 cm long, sow them into the leveled bed, with a density such that the peanut seeds do not overlap each other. Cover with 1.5 to 2 cm of fine soil or sawdust, pat it firm, and water thoroughly. At this time, maintain the temperature at 20°C to 25°C. Decide whether to water according to the growth situation. When the peanut sprouts grow 1 to 1.5 cm above the bed surface, they can be harvested.
