The technique of increasing corn yield through late harvest is, on the premise of not affecting the timely sowing of wheat, to fully extend the corn grain-filling period, increase grain weight, raise corn yield, and improve corn varieties. At the same time, if the land must be cleared for the next crop and early harvest is necessary, the stalks can be harvested together with the ears, placed at the edge of the field for 1~2 weeks, and then the ears removed, which can promote the transfer of nutrients from the corn stalks to the grains and can significantly increase yield and quality.

Technical points:

1. Change the habit of harvesting as soon as the husks turn yellow, and strictly grasp the signs of full corn maturity: namely, the grains become hard, the grain milk line moves down to the base of the grain and completely disappears, the black layer forms at the base of the grain, the grains show the color and characteristics inherent to the variety, and the ear husks become dry, loose, and white.

2. Delay harvest by 10 days, changing the customary harvest at 40~45 days after pollination to harvest at about 55 days after pollination. Make full use of the climate resources of clear autumn skies and refreshing air in the late growth period of corn, which are favorable for dry matter accumulation, extend the corn grain-filling period as much as possible, and allow the grain weight potential of corn to be fully realized.

3. Accurately grasp the date when local corn is fully mature, and actively promote mechanical harvest. In our county, the corn sowing period is generally from late May to early to mid-June, and the harvest period is generally at the end of September and the beginning of October.
