Recently, some individual wheat growers reported that the tips of the wheat turned yellow, small pale yellow spots appeared on the leaf sheaths, and crisscrossing stripe-like yellow markings appeared on the base, commonly known as “flowering stems”, with severe cases showing dark brown rot. These are the typical symptoms of wheat sharp eyespot. It is understood that the disease was more severe in growers who did not carry out any chemical seed treatment of the wheat seed.

Wheat sharp eyespot is also known as damping-off and sharp eyespot disease. It mainly damages the leaf sheaths and stems at the base of the plant. After wheat germinates, the coleoptile is infected by the pathogen, turns brown, and finally rots and dies. At the 3~4 leaf stage, small pale yellow spots first appear on the leaf sheaths, then develop into typical yellow-brown spindle-shaped or eye-spot lesions. The diseased area gradually expands, darkens in color, and develops inward to affect the stem, the basal stem nodes rot, the seedlings do not produce new leaves, and they collapse and die.

Wheat sharp eyespot generally has two peak periods of occurrence. The occurrence and epidemic of wheat sharp eyespot has two peak periods, before winter and at the jointing stage, and the degree of disease occurrence before winter directly affects the degree of disease and damage in the later period. Therefore, the focus should be on controlling the early stage, delaying the pathogen infection period and the wheat plant disease period, and reducing disease severity and damage losses. Severely diseased fields with a high incidence rate should combine prevention and control measures before winter and in early spring.

Wheat sharp eyespot can be controlled in two periods: chemical control at the early stage of disease occurrence (late October to mid-November) and at the reviving stage (late March to early April). That is, use 50 ml of Jinggang? Layangjun plus 15 ml of seaweed extract or 10 ml of shenqinmycin plus 5 ml of Aiduoshou plus 20 g of phosphorus-potassium power per mu, sprayed with one bucket of water, at an interval of 5~7 days, for 2~3 consecutive applications.
