Method for Soaking Wheat Seeds in Biogas Slurry to Boost Yield
Biogas slurry contains a variety of active, resistance-related and nutritional substances. Soaking seeds in biogas slurry can promote the metabolic activity of wheat seeds, making wheat seedlings emerge evenly, with well-developed root systems and vigorous growth, enhancing cold and disease resistance, and increasing wheat yield. According to trials, soaking wheat seeds in biogas slurry can increase yield by 5%-7%. The specific method is to soak the wheat seeds in biogas slurry one day before sowing; the soaking time is determined by whether the wheat has absorbed enough water, after which the seeds are rinsed clean with fresh water and can then be sown. Because this technique is simple, safe, effective and requires no investment, it is suitable for promotion in agricultural production.
1. Technical key points
1. Sunning the seeds: To improve seed water absorption, before soaking in biogas slurry, turn and sun-dry the seeds for 1-2 days and remove debris to ensure seed purity and quality.
2. Cleaning the biogas digester outlet chamber: Remove as much floating scum and settled sludge from the outlet chamber as possible so the biogas slurry can be used for soaking seeds.
3. Bagging and soaking: Choose woven bags and cloth bags with good water permeability to hold the seeds, and leave appropriate space to prevent the seeds from bursting the bags after absorbing water. When soaking, tie one end of a rope to the bag opening and fix the other end at the edge of the tank, so the seeds are completely immersed in the biogas slurry; the soaking time is about 12 hours.
4. Rinsing and sowing: After soaking in biogas slurry is finished, the seeds should be rinsed clean in fresh water, and then sown.
2. Precautions
1. The biogas digester used for soaking seeds in biogas slurry must have been producing gas normally for more than 1 month; biogas slurry from abandoned or dead digesters cannot be used for soaking seeds.
2. The soaking time should not be too long; it is best when the seeds have absorbed enough water.
3. Seeds soaked in biogas slurry should all be rinsed clean in fresh water, and then sown.
4. Be sure to put the tank cover back in place promptly to prevent people and livestock from falling into the tank.
