Four protections to do well in spring field management of wheat
To ensure high and stable wheat yields, after the beginning of spring, four protections should be emphasized in wheat management.
First, prevent waterlogging damage After the beginning of spring there is generally more rain, and if drainage is poor and soil moisture is too high, waterlogging damage is very likely to occur. Ditches should be cleared and drainage carried out in time, and plant ash should be spread between the rows to loosen the soil and increase soil permeability.
Second, prevent lodging For plots where seedlings show a tendency to lodge, carry out deep intertillage and compaction before wheat jointing. At the early stage of wheat jointing, after the dew has dried on a sunny day, spray a chlormequat chloride solution at a concentration of 0.2%-0.4%.
Third, prevent premature senescence After wheat heading, the roots, stems, and leaves basically stop growing, the growth center shifts to the ear, and the organic nutrients produced and stored by the stems and leaves are continuously transported to the grain. During this period, leaf premature senescence often occurs due to lack of fertilizer, causing a decrease in thousand-grain weight and reduced yield, so fertilizer should be supplemented in time. Usually from wheat booting to the early grain-filling stage, foliar spraying of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers supplements the shortage of soil nutrients and extends the functional period of the leaves. A solution of 0.2%-0.3% monopotassium phosphate plus 1% urea can be sprayed, once every 10 days, for 2-3 consecutive sprays; adding one more spray when all leaves have emerged gives better results. The best time to spray fertilizer is in the evening, and it should not be sprayed around noon. If rain occurs within 8 hours after spraying, spray again.
Fourth, prevent diseases and pests The middle and late stages of wheat are periods of high incidence of diseases and pests such as fusarium head blight, rust, sheath blight, and aphids, which greatly affect yield and quality, so prevention and control should be carried out early.
