What issues should be noted when fertilizing pear trees in autumn
After the pear trees are harvested, applying sufficient and good base fertilizer in time is beneficial for producing high-yield and high-quality pears the following year. Applying base fertilizer to pear trees in autumn plays a major role in the growth and development of pear trees: First, from September to November, the root system enters its second growth peak, and fertilizing at this time not only facilitates the rapid decomposition of fertilizer, but also helps new roots absorb and store nutrients.
To apply sufficient and good base fertilizer to pear trees, the following points should be carried out well:
1. Choose the best fertilization time. From after pear harvest until before the buds sprout in the following spring, base fertilizer can be applied, but autumn fertilization is best, and it is recommended to fertilize in September to October when soil moisture is good.
2. Choose high-quality organic fertilizers. Base fertilizer should mainly be organic fertilizer. Generally, apply about 50 kg of decomposed farmyard manure or barnyard manure per pear tree, together with 1 kg of superphosphate fertilizer and 0.2-0.5 kg of urea, or 0.5-2 kg of refined organic compound fertilizers such as Huimanfeng and Diletan. The amount of base fertilizer applied accounts for 60%-70% of the annual fertilizer amount.
3. Flexibly adopt fertilization methods. The application method of base fertilizer should be flexibly mastered according to tree age and local habits. Newly harvested pear trees can be fertilized by opening a ring ditch, or by opening radial ditches according to the direction of the root system, or by opening strip ditches between the rows of pear trees, or by digging holes. These methods should be alternated from year to year. In order to reduce fertilizer waste, fertilizer should be applied deeply, with a depth of 30-50 cm. In case of drought, irrigate in time, so as to regulate fertilizer with water.
