What are the control methods for the tea bagworm on pomegranate trees?
1. Manual control
Manually remove the bagworm bags hanging on the branches and destroy them in a centralized manner. It is more convenient to do this during the dormancy period of the fruit tree, but care should be taken to protect natural enemies. This method has a thorough control effect and is safe for pomegranates, but if the orchard area is large, it is time-consuming and labor-intensive.
2. Chemical control
The key to chemical control is the selection of pesticides and the timing of control. Because pomegranate trees are relatively sensitive to pesticides, a slight mistake can easily cause phytotoxicity. And because the pests are protected by their bags, ordinary pesticides are difficult to control them, so in terms of pesticides, one should choose pesticides that are safe for pomegranate trees, have no side effects, are efficient, low-toxicity, low-residue, systemic, and strongly penetrative. The control time should be chosen before the larvae reach the 4th instar, so as to achieve the ideal control effect. We conducted control trials and demonstrations in the Huanglian Zhangtulin pomegranate orchard and screened out the following 3 pesticides, which have good control effects on the tea bagworm on pomegranate and are also safe for pomegranate trees, and can be selected for use.
2.1 Biological pesticide 20% Haoniandong emulsifiable concentrate 1000-fold solution, sprayed around 10 a.m. before the larvae reach the 4th instar. One application gives a control effect of more than 95%.
2.2 10% Gaoxiao Miebaike emulsifiable concentrate produced by Cyanamid, sprayed as a 1500-fold solution. This pesticide has a fast knockdown speed, and one application gives a control effect of more than 97%.
2.3 5% Regent suspension concentrate 2000-fold solution spray control, one application gives a control effect of more than 95%.
