What are the causes of melon fruit abortion and the control methods?
1. Causes of fruit abortion
1. Temperature too high or too low. When the temperature is too high, photosynthetic accumulation is low and respiration consumption is high, which easily causes the vines to grow excessively, leading to malnutrition and fruit abortion; when the temperature is too low, the root absorption capacity weakens, affecting photosynthesis and leading to nutrient deficiency and fruit abortion.
2. Soil too dry or too waterlogged. When the soil is too dry, the young melons cannot expand due to lack of water and abort; when too waterlogged, soil permeability decreases, inhibiting root absorption of nutrients and thus causing fruit abortion.
3. Improper fertilization. Mainly, excessive nitrogen supply causes the vegetative growth of melons to be too vigorous, weakening reproductive growth and causing fruit abortion.
4. Too high a concentration of hormones used very easily causes fruit abortion.
2. Control methods
1. Control the appropriate temperature; the daytime maximum temperature should not be higher than 35°C, preferably between 25°C and 32°C, and the nighttime minimum temperature should not be lower than 10°C, preferably between 15°C and 20°C.
2. Drain and irrigate in time to ensure the soil is evenly dry and wet.
3. Fertilize in a balanced way; especially during the peak fruiting period, appropriately supplement phosphorus and potassium fertilizer.
4. Strictly master the concentration of hormones used; use the lower limit concentration at high temperatures and the upper limit concentration at low temperatures.
