Plum Seed Sowing and Seedling Raising and Seedling Stage Management Methods:

1. Nursery Site Selection The nursery site should be selected in a place with flat terrain and loose, fertile soil. Before winter, irrigate first and plow deep. In late March, prepare the land and lay plastic film. The plastic film is best laid in a north-south direction so that the seedlings can receive uniform light. The plastic film must be laid flat and covered tightly. Two to three days before sowing, place the stratified seeds in a greenhouse or indoors for germination, and pick out the germinated seeds for sowing.

2. Sowing Use manual labor to punch holes in the plastic film. The plant spacing is required to be 3 to 5 cm, the hole depth 2 to 4 cm, the hole diameter 5 cm, and the row spacing is wide-narrow row, with narrow rows at 30 cm and wide rows at 60 to 70 cm. When sowing, place the germinated seeds into the holes, 1 or 2 seeds per hole. Cover the seeds with 2 cm of moist fine soil and seal the hole opening tightly. To ensure sowing quality and uniform seedling emergence, do not sow seeds that have not germinated. Sowing is best carried out before early April. If the weather is clear after sowing, seedlings will push through the plastic film in 4 to 5 days, and the seedlings can be fully emerged in 7 to 10 days. During emergence, check every day and promptly release seedlings that are pushing up through the soil, to prevent the seedlings from bending inside the plastic film or being scorched.

3. Seedling Management The early stage management of rootstock seedlings is extremely important. To promote vigorous early growth of rootstock seedlings, in addition to using plastic film mulching, foliar fertilization is also needed. When the rootstock seedlings grow to 5 to 8 cm, spray the leaves with 0.5% monopotassium phosphate plus 0.2% urea for foliar fertilization 2 to 3 times, with each interval about 20 days. In early June, when the rootstock seedlings grow to 20 cm, pinch off all growing tips to promote root branching and thickening growth.
