What cold-resistance protection measures are there for papaya cultivation?

General News By Sophie Bennett 0 views
Papaya is a tropical crop that likes hot climates and is harmed by low temperatures and frost. Freeze damage occurs when the temperature drops below 5°C. Therefore, the following measures are very important for preventing freeze damage: First, apply a heavy overwintering fertilizer. Before winter arrives, apply 10-15 kg of organic fertilizer made from a mixture of decomposed human and livestock manure and plant ash per tree, plus 1.5 kg of phosphate fertilizer. At a distance of 80-100 cm from the main trunk, dig a ring-shaped trench 20 cm deep and 35 cm wide, mix the fertilizer thoroughly with the soil that was dug out, and then fill it back into the trench. After fertilizing, cover the tree base with rice straw or other weeds.

First, apply a heavy overwintering fertilizer.

Second, tie up the trunk. Before winter arrives, wrap the trunk with rice straw and tie it tightly with rope to prevent cold wind and rain from directly damaging the main trunk.

Third, protect the growing point. Before a cold wave arrives, cover the growing point at the top of the plant with rice straw or plastic film to protect the growing point from freezing to death.

Fourth, use smoke to raise the temperature. On clear, windless cold nights, use rice straw, rice husks, sawdust, turf mud, and so on to light fires and create smoke in the orchard to prevent cold air from sinking and frost particles from forming, thereby protecting the plant leaves.

Fifth, spray clean water. On mornings when frost particles have formed, spray the plants with clean water to wash off the frost particles and reduce the freeze damage they cause to the leaves.
