Saposhnikovia divaricata has strong adaptability and strong drought tolerance; as long as a full stand of seedlings is ensured, management during the growing period is relatively simple. To promote its growth and development, some growth-promoting and growth-controlling measures can be taken.

(1) Topdressing and watering

In general, when Saposhnikovia divaricata is cultivated artificially in the first year, if sufficient base fertilizer is applied, it rarely shows symptoms of fertilizer deficiency. If the base fertilizer is insufficient before sowing or if it is sown on sandy soil, topdressing is needed after seedling thinning to ensure nutrient supply and promote robust growth. Generally, 8-10 kg of urea and 3-5 kg of potassium sulfate are applied per mu. The topdressing method can be hole application, followed by covering the fertilizer with soil and watering. If severe drought weather occurs, irrigation should be carried out promptly to meet the growth needs of Saposhnikovia divaricata seedlings and ensure their robust growth.

(2) Intertillage and earthing up

During the growth period of Saposhnikovia divaricata, weeds also continue to grow, competing with the plants for fertilizer, water, and light, affecting the normal growth and development of Saposhnikovia divaricata. Therefore, intertillage and weeding should be done promptly. Generally, before the rows close, intertillage and loosening of the soil should be carried out 2-3 times to keep the field clean. After the rows close, intertillage and weeding become inconvenient; if weeds are found, they should be pulled out by hand promptly to reduce their impact on the growth of Saposhnikovia divaricata. When the plants close their rows, old leaves should first be removed, then soil should be earthed up around the roots to keep them warm and moist and prevent lodging.

(3) Drainage and flood prevention

The vigorous growth period of Saposhnikovia divaricata is from June to August, which coincides with the rainy season. If flooding and water accumulation occur in the field (bed), they should be drained promptly, followed by intertillage to maintain good soil permeability at the field surface, which is beneficial to root growth and prevents root rot from water accumulation.
