How to care for carnations in winter? These care tips you need to master
1. Light
Because it is a plant that relatively likes light, in winter we can put it in the sunlight on days when the sun appears. If the sun does not come out, we can also use artificial light on it. Of course, it is also feasible not to use artificial light.
2. Temperature
It has a certain tolerance for low temperatures, but if the temperature is below 9°C, it will not grow at the speed we hope for. So in winter, we had better use certain methods to raise the temperature. If that cannot be done, we can also cover it with film, or simply send it to a greenhouse.
3. Water
Watering is still necessary, but we must control the amount, because it cannot tolerate waterlogging. Usually we had better adopt drip irrigation, so that we can avoid the suffering caused by waterlogging, and the plant's growth will also be satisfactory.
4. Soil
Its soil must remain fertile, and the pot must be chosen well. Aeration conditions and drainage conditions both need to be good; only in this way can it be grown well.
5. Fertilizing
Fertilizing in winter is also indispensable. Generally speaking, we need to fertilize every half a month. There are many choices of fertilizer. Some common ones, such as diluted urea water or the ash from burned grass, can all provide nutrients to it. However, we must also note one point, namely that we cannot apply too concentrated fertilizer to it.
6. Pests and diseases
Although in winter pests and diseases may decrease greatly due to the influence of temperature, this does not mean that there are no pests or diseases at this time. At this time, we had better prevent and control them in advance, using the necessary chemicals to remove pests and diseases. If they have not been removed and pests or diseases have already appeared, then we can take measures to kill them. For example, the leaf spot disease we know of can occur in winter. At this time, we must keep it dry, pay attention to both drainage and ventilation, and also use a fungicide every week to treat it.
