What diseases affect water bamboo? How to prevent and control them
Water bamboo, also known as gaogua, gu sun, gu shou, jiao sun, and gao sun. It is a perennial herbaceous plant with rhizomes in the grass family, genus Zizania. It is divided into double-crop water bamboo and single-crop water bamboo (or divided into one-harvest jiao and two-harvest jiao); double-crop water bamboo (two-harvest jiao) has higher yield and better quality. The ancients called water bamboo “gu”. Before the Tang Dynasty, water bamboo was cultivated as a grain crop; its seeds are called gu mi or diao hu, and it is one of the “six grains” (tu, shu, ji, liang, mai, gu).
Water bamboo mainly contains protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin E, trace carotene, and minerals. The organic nitrogen in tender water bamboo exists in the form of amino acids and can provide sulfur; it is delicious, has high nutritional value, and is easily absorbed by the human body. However, because water bamboo contains relatively high oxalic acid, its calcium is not easily absorbed by the human body.
What diseases affect water bamboo?
The main diseases of water bamboo are rust, brown spot, and sheath blight. Prevention and control of water bamboo diseases must be based on agricultural control and implemented through integrated management. Select and retain disease-resistant varieties, do a good job of winter orchard cleanup, plant at a reasonable density, strengthen fertilizer and water management, manually peel off yellow leaves and diseased leaves, and at the same time rationally apply chemical control, spraying for protection at the early stage of disease onset.
Control methods for water bamboo:
For rust control, the chemicals that can be selected include 20% triadimefon (2500x), 25% Tilt (3000x), 40% Fuxing (8000x), 40% duo? sulfur (400x), etc.; for brown spot control, the chemicals that can be selected include 25% Shibaike (2000-3000x), 70% Antaison (800x), 50% iprodione (1000x), 10% Shigao (2000x), etc. For sheath blight control, select 5% Jinggangmycin (1000x). Note: a smut fungus parasitizes inside the water bamboo stem, reproduces when water bamboo joints, and produces a secretion of the auxin type that stimulates the growth of parenchyma tissue, causing the stem to swell into water bamboo. Therefore, during the booting stage, fungicides must be used with caution, especially triazole fungicides, which must be prohibited.
