Detailed Explanation of Key Points for Rapid Toon (Chinese Mahogany) Cultivation Techniques
1. When the outdoor average temperature is above 18°C, it can be grown in the open field, but it should be properly shaded, avoiding direct sunlight, with frequent water spraying to maintain an appropriate temperature. In the hot summer season, measures such as shading, spraying water, and cooling should be adopted to keep the temperature within 35°C, otherwise growth will stop. In winter, early spring and late autumn, greenhouses and plastic tunnels can be used for production. The most suitable temperature for toon sprouts is around 26°C.
2. To save land, vertical cultivation can be adopted. The cultivation rack is made of materials such as angle iron, steel bars, bamboo poles, and wooden sticks. The cultivation rack is set up with 3 to 5 layers, with a spacing of 30 cm to 40 cm between each layer, and the width depends on the length of the seedling tray. For ease of operation, the height generally should not exceed 1.65 m.
3. It is best to use lightweight plastic seedling trays. This can reduce the load-bearing of the cultivation rack, and wooden trays are also acceptable. The tray specifications are about 60 cm long, 25 cm wide, and 5 cm high, for ease of movement and harvesting.
4. The cultivation soil commonly used is clean washed sand.
5. Spraying equipment: the toon sprout growth cycle is short, and the water-holding capacity of the substrate is basically sufficient to meet the water needs of the sprouts throughout the entire growth period. After the sprouts grow out of the substrate, they should be sprayed at regular intervals; do not pour water.
6. The selection of the site should be determined according to seasonal changes.
