How to Prevent and Treat Bacterial Wilt in Peppers? A Detailed Guide to Practical Technical Points
Pepper bacterial wilt is a typical bacterial soil-borne disease, and its pathogen is bacteria of the Ralstonia solanacearum genus. The pathogen survives for a relatively long time and mainly invades through wounds on the plant stem. Root wounds caused by agricultural operations such as transplanting and loosening the soil, as well as by insects and other injuries, can all allow bacteria in the soil to invade, and they multiply rapidly under high temperature and high humidity conditions.
The early symptoms of pepper bacterial wilt appear only as wilting of the youngest one to several leaves. At first the wilting can still recover, but afterward it tends to become stable.
Agricultural Measures
1. Sow early. Bacterial wilt generally occurs in early to mid-June. To avoid the peak incidence period coinciding with the full fruiting period, sowing can be done earlier.
2. Choose well-drained sandy loam soil for cultivation. After deep plowing the soil, spray an 800-fold dilution of Xin Gaozhi Mo (New High-Fat Film) to disinfect the soil, preserve warmth and moisture, and help the seeds germinate and grow.
3. Implement crop rotation of more than three years. Bacterial wilt can harm many Solanaceae crops. Where the previous crop was tomato, eggplant, or pepper, pepper should not be planted.
4. Pay attention to drainage. The bacterial wilt pathogen can spread with water flow, so use high ridges and narrow beds for cultivation, pay attention to timely drainage, and do not allow water to accumulate in the beds.
5. Pruning, loosening the soil, topdressing, and other work should be completed before the disease onset period. After the disease occurs, take special care not to loosen the soil or hoe weeds; if there are weeds, they can only be pulled out by hand to avoid injuring the roots.
6. When diseased plants are found, pull them out promptly, and spray Hushu Jiangjun (Tree Guardian General) on the soil in the hole and nearby soil to sterilize and disinfect, preventing spread.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Measures
Early stage: When diseased plants are found, immediately use "Aolike - Qingku Like" 100-150ml (the amount used depends on the expected disease situation and the severity of continuous cropping) + garlic oil 15ml, mixed with 30 jin of water for root drenching (spraying at the same time gives better results), once every 3 days, for 2-3 consecutive times; after the condition is controlled, switch to prevention.
Mid-stage of disease onset: "Aolike - Qingku Like" 150-200ml (the amount used is determined by the degree of disease onset, severity of continuous cropping, etc.) + garlic oil 15-30ml + systemic agents such as hymexazol or hymexazol-manganese-zinc or shenqinmycin, mixed with 30 jin of water for uniform root drenching (spraying at the same time gives better results), once every 3 days, for 2-3 consecutive times; after the condition is controlled, switch to prevention.
