How much does a Guiwei lychee sapling cost

The overall price of Guiwei lychee saplings ranges from 5 to 15, varying depending on factors such as the quality and origin of the sapling, as well as the quantity purchased.

How to breed lychee saplings

1. Seed collection and handling

Lychee rootstock saplings are all grown from seed. Take fully ripe lychee fruit, wash the seeds with clean water on the same day after removing the flesh, spread them in a shady place or on a sand bed to germinate for 5 to 7 days, watering frequently to keep the seeds at a certain humidity, and once the seeds sprout, sow them in a previously prepared seedbed. Lychee seeds lose viability very easily; seeds with the flesh removed lose water readily under natural conditions and lose their germination capacity after 6 to 7 days, so maintaining moisture is an important condition for seed germination.

2. Preparing the nursery plot and sowing

The nursery plot is best chosen as sandy loam rich in organic matter and loose in texture. When sowing, apply 5000 kg of finely crushed barnyard manure per mu, plow and harrow fine, level the soil, then make beds 120 cm wide. Cover the bed surface with 2 to 3 cm of fine mud or river sand, place the seeds flat on the bed surface, cover with a layer of fine mud or river sand, just enough to cover the seeds, then cover with rice straw or build a shade shed to prevent exposure to the sun and keep the seedbed moist. Seedling bags can also be used for raising seedlings.

Building a lychee plantation

1. Choose a good plot. For high-yield lychee cultivation, choose hilly or sloping land with an open terrain, a slope below 30 degrees, loose and fertile soil, and a water source, as an ideal site for developing a plantation.

2. Do good planning. For the selected plot, carefully carry out the planning of variety selection, divisions, roads, drainage and irrigation systems, fertilizer base, shelterbelts and auxiliary buildings, so as to facilitate standardized management of the orchard.

3. Reasonably determine planting density. Generally, for hilly land, a row spacing of 3.5×3.5 m or 3.5×4 m, with 50-60 plants per mu, is a relatively reasonable density.

4. Dig large holes and apply sufficient base fertilizer. For reclaiming hilly land to build an orchard, open contour terrace strips or contour trenches according to the row spacing specifications. Then, according to the selected plant spacing, dig planting holes at fixed points, with the hole specifications being 1 m in length, width and depth, and put 40 kg of composted and decomposed organic fertilizer such as garbage compost, green manure, barnyard manure and pig and cattle manure into each hole as base fertilizer.

5. Plant carefully. When planting, hold the sapling with one hand and gently backfill fine soil with the other, backfilling to about 2 cm above the roots, water thoroughly to settle the roots, then continue backfilling, and when the backfilled soil is about 10 cm above the ground, form a tree basin, then cover with thatch or stem grass to retain moisture, set up a support beside the sapling to prevent wind from shaking the sapling loose and causing death, water once every 3 days on sunny days after planting, pay attention to drainage to prevent waterlogging on rainy days, and check survival after 30 days and replant in time.

Growing conditions for lychee trees

1. Temperature: Since lychee originated in the southern subtropical region of China, the average annual temperature in the main production areas is 20-30°C, and its temperature requirements are relatively strict, thus limiting its cultivation distribution. During growth and development, it requires high temperature and humidity, with an optimal growth temperature of 23-29°C, and slow growth at 10-12°C. In winter, there must be a certain period of appropriately low temperature to help inhibit vegetative growth and promote flower bud differentiation. In spring, flowering begins only above 10°C, with the most abundant flowering at 18-24°C; low temperature and rainy weather during the flowering period and young fruit period cause a large amount of flower and fruit drop, or even total crop failure. Temperatures of 0-2°C cause low-temperature damage, but mature trees can withstand -2.8°C or even lower when there is no growth activity.

2. Water: Lychee growth requires sufficient water, requiring an annual rainfall of more than 1200 mm, with the main production areas in South China receiving 1500-1800 m of annual rainfall. Lychee likes light and is known as "sunshine lychee." According to an analysis of the climate in our city over the past 20 years, generally January with low temperatures (11-15°C), many sunny days (12-22 days), long sunshine duration (117 h), few rainy days (less than 5-10 days), rainfall of less than 50 mm, and relative humidity below 73%, indicates a high-yield year.

3. Soil: It can adapt to mountain red and yellow soils, flatland sandy loam, alluvial soil, and even clay, but it is best with acidic (PH 5-6) sandy loam with deep soil layers, good drainage and irrigation, more than 2% organic matter, loose soil, and the ability to promote the reproduction of root fungi.

Guiwei lychee saplings are not expensive, but the lychees they bear are extremely delicious. For friends who want to grow Guiwei lychee, buying saplings directly is simpler and easier than breeding them yourself, and once a lychee tree is planted, after it flowers and bears fruit, it can harvest abundance of sweetness every year.
