The Arid Wave succulent is a fairly common succulent plant. Its leaves are generally triangular, with some white spines on them, and the whole plant is green. When the Arid Wave blooms, it is very beautiful, and many people now like to grow it, but before growing it, you need to have some in-depth understanding of its growing techniques.

How to grow the Arid Wave succulent

1. Watering: It is drought-tolerant. During the spring and autumn growing season, water once every 2 weeks to keep the potting soil slightly moist, and reduce watering during high summer temperatures. In winter, water once every 6 weeks and keep the potting soil dry. Be careful not to wet the base of the leaves when watering.

2. Light: Full sun, with appropriate shading in summer. A layer of small gravel can be spread on the surface of the potting soil to help raise the soil temperature and promote flowering.

3. Fertilizing: It relatively likes fertilizer; fertilize once a month during the growing season. In summer, the Arid Wave is in a dormant state, so pause fertilizing.

4. Repotting: Repot every spring, and when repotting, cut off the shriveled leaves at the base.

5. Pests and diseases: Common pests and diseases include leaf spot and scale insects. Once found, promptly remove the diseased leaves and spray with pesticide.

Growing methods for the Arid Wave succulent

1. Light requirements: How much sunlight the placement location gets is also a very important point. Not only the Arid Wave succulent, but all plants cannot survive in a place with no light at all. Without light, plants will grow like bean sprouts, thin and weak, and the color of the leaves will gradually fade. If you want them to maintain a healthy and good appearance, you must give them the most appropriate sunlight. Artificial light cannot replace sunlight, and this point needs attention.

2. Pest removal: Home-grown Arid Wave succulents are usually not numerous, so you can often check them yourself for insects. Common insects on the Arid Wave succulent include: red spider mites, scale insects, and whiteflies. These can all be cleaned off by hand.

3. Preventing rot: Overwatering, air that is too humid, and failure to remove pests can all cause the Arid Wave succulent to rot. A rotting succulent appears faded and soft. If you find a rotting Arid Wave succulent, at this time you need to cut it off as soon as possible. It is best to disinfect the tools that have been used to avoid infecting other plants.

Precautions for growing the Arid Wave succulent

1. The Arid Wave is native to South Africa and likes a warm, dry, sunny environment. Its most suitable growing temperature is 18~24°C. It is not cold-tolerant and is drought-tolerant, and can receive sunlight all day. The care location should be bright and avoid direct strong light.

2. The more common propagation methods are division and sowing. Division: carry out in April~May together with repotting. Take the plant out of the pot, cut it apart from the roots, and directly plant the small offsets with roots; plants without roots can first be inserted into a sand bed, and after rooting, pot them. Sowing: sow indoors in pots in April~May, control the temperature at 22~24°C, and they will germinate in 2~3 weeks.

How to prevent and control pests and diseases on the Arid Wave succulent

1. Aphids. Control method: if there are few, they can be caught by hand, pinching each one you see. In the early stage of infestation, spray with 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate at 1500 times dilution, or consider Germany Bayer imidacloprid.

2. Red spider mites. Control method: increasing environmental humidity can reduce and avoid their spread. They can be killed by absorption with 40% dicofol at 1000-1500 times dilution, or abamectin.

3. Fusarium wilt. Control method: before potting, spray with 70% thiophanate wettable powder at 1000 times solution for prevention, and after it dries, apply sulfur powder for disinfection.

4. Anthracnose. Control method: first open windows for ventilation to lower indoor air stuffiness and humidity. Then spray with 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder at 1000 times dilution, or spray 70% thiophanate-methyl, 60% anthracnose Fumei, carbendazim, etc., to prevent the disease from continuing to spread.

Growing the Arid Wave is similar to growing general succulents, mainly in aspects such as fertilizer and water, light, and temperature. Its propagation is generally most commonly done by the two methods of division and sowing. In the later stage of growing, pest and disease prevention and control work should be strengthened. Only after doing these things well can the Arid Wave's growth be guaranteed to be good.
