Lampranthus spectabilis is a common succulent plant with high ornamental value. It blooms, usually in red, purple, orange and yellow flowers, which are more commonly seen. Lampranthus spectabilis can now be seen in many parts of our country. Many people like to buy a pot and take it home to grow. But when growing it, there are many things to pay attention to.

How to grow Lampranthus spectabilis (potted)

1. Planting. To plant rooted seedlings from cuttings, 3-5 plants can be planted together in one flower pot. The potting soil should be sandy culture soil, with some decomposed cake fertilizer added as base fertilizer. Because old plants bloom poorly, renew and cultivate new plants every 2-3 years.

2. Temperature and soil. Lampranthus spectabilis likes a warm, dry, well-ventilated environment, and the minimum temperature should be around 10°C. During the growing period it should not be too humid. Apart from hot days, it needs good light. It needs loose, moderately fertile and well-drained sandy loam.

3. Pests and diseases. Lampranthus spectabilis often suffers from leaf spot disease and rust disease, which can be sprayed with 65% zineb wettable powder 600 times dilution. For pest damage there are scale insects, which can be killed by spraying with 40% omethoate emulsifiable concentrate 1500 times dilution.

Cultivation methods for Lampranthus spectabilis

1. Pot and soil selection. For potted Lampranthus spectabilis, a small flower pot can be chosen at the seedling stage, filled with loose, fertile, well-drained sandy soil, and a little base fertilizer can be added. During the growth of Lampranthus spectabilis, the plant keeps growing, the nutrients in the soil are lacking, and too small a flower pot will also restrict root growth, so the pot can be turned and changed every spring.

2. Water and fertilizer management. Lampranthus spectabilis is rather afraid of waterlogging and has drought tolerance. Therefore, when watering, the amount of water should be moderate, keeping the potting soil moist; it is better to water less than too much, so as to avoid water accumulating in the potting soil. In the growing seasons of spring and autumn, Lampranthus spectabilis can be given decomposed dilute liquid fertilizer once every half month to ensure sufficient nutrients, make the plant grow vigorously and promote flowering. But note that fertilizer and water must not be excessive, otherwise the plant will grow leggy and bloom less. In summer and winter, because the temperature is too high or too low, fertilization should be stopped and the amount of watering reduced.

3. Light and temperature. Lampranthus spectabilis likes a warm environment with plenty of sunshine, and the suitable temperature for growth is between 18°C and 25°C. It is not cold-tolerant and is afraid of high temperatures. Spring and autumn are the growing seasons for Lampranthus spectabilis, and the temperature and light are also relatively suitable, so it can be exposed to more sunlight. In summer, the sunlight is strong and the temperature is high, so it needs shading and should be kept in a cool, ventilated place. In winter, the temperature is lower, so it can be kept indoors in a place with relatively strong sunlight, and the temperature should be kept within a certain range.

Precautions for Lampranthus spectabilis

1. Pests and diseases. During the growth of Lampranthus spectabilis, the common diseases are leaf spot disease and rust disease, as well as pest damage such as scale insects. Observe the growth condition of the Lampranthus spectabilis plant frequently, and deal with pests and diseases promptly when found.

2. Shaping and pruning. In the early growth stage of Lampranthus spectabilis, pinching can be carried out to promote the growth of the plant. After Lampranthus spectabilis blooms, it should be pruned appropriately to keep the plant shape attractive.

Cutting propagation method for Lampranthus spectabilis

1. Lampranthus spectabilis is mostly propagated by cuttings, and cutting propagation is generally carried out in spring and autumn.

2. When taking cuttings of Lampranthus spectabilis, relatively plump branches should be chosen as cuttings; generally a branch of about 5cm should be cut, keeping 3——4 leaves.

3. The cut cuttings need to be treated first. They can be soaked in sugar water or rooting powder solution to promote rooting, then the cuttings are inserted into prepared sandy soil, keeping a certain rooting temperature, but it must not be too wet. Generally, they can take root in about one month.

4. After the small cutting seedlings of Lampranthus spectabilis survive, they can be transplanted into flower pots. Add sandy soil to the flower pot as culture soil, and some decomposed cake fertilizer can be added as base fertilizer. When the seedlings grow to about 20cm, they can be pinched, and afterwards reasonable care is all that is needed.

If you want to grow Lampranthus spectabilis well, you first need to understand its growth habits. It likes to grow in warm places and should not be watered excessively, so when growing it you must do a good job of drainage. In the later stage of cultivation, timely pruning and prevention and control of pests and diseases are also needed.
