Everyone must be very familiar with the Golden Pothos! The Golden Pothos is a fairly common flowering plant in our daily lives. Its leaves are upright and emerald green, evergreen throughout the four seasons, and the leaves are large and thick, giving a feeling of vigorous vitality and making it especially likable. So is the Golden Pothos actually easy to grow? Below, let's learn together about the methods and precautions for growing the Golden Pothos!

How to Care for a Golden Pothos

1. Soil selection. The Golden Pothos is not very strict about soil requirements; loose, fertile, and breathable soil is sufficient. So we can go to a place that sells flowers or a place that specifically sells flower fertilizer and buy some soil that has already been prepared, which is also quite good. Of course, making your own humus soil is even better. The Golden Pothos is a southern plant and relatively prefers slightly acidic soil. Ordinary soil can also be used for planting, but slightly acidic soil is more beneficial to its growth.

2. Temperature. The Golden Pothos is also not very demanding about temperature. Its ability to adapt to the environment is relatively strong. In summer, do not let it be in direct sunlight for a long time. Sometimes when the midday temperature is too high, you can wipe the leaf surface with a damp cloth to achieve a cooling effect. In winter, keeping the temperature above 5 degrees is sufficient. Try to keep it away from heating. If there is underfloor heating at home, it is best to place a thick mat or a wooden flower stand on the floor for heat insulation. In this way, the Golden Pothos is generally cared for very well.

3. Water. The Golden Pothos relatively likes moist soil. In summer, when the climate is dry, you can water once a day, because the soil of the Golden Pothos is naturally quite breathable and very conducive to water evaporation. So remember to spray water on the leaves in summer. Adding a small amount of nutrient solution to the sprayed water is also good. In summer it grows quickly and will need more nutrients. In winter, watering once every one to two weeks can ensure its normal growth, but if the temperature at home is too high and evaporation is high, you can water a moderate amount more. It depends on the size of the pot at home and the amount of soil.

4. Fertilizing. The growing season of the Golden Pothos is generally from May to September. This is the growth stage of the Golden Pothos and also the stage of lush leaves. You can apply a moderate amount of more fertilizer, but not too much. Applying a small amount of fertilizer every three days is enough to ensure the normal development and growth of the Golden Pothos. Apply more nitrogen fertilizer to promote faster growth of green leaves. At other stages, just apply less fertilizer. In winter, basically no fertilizer is needed. If the temperature is high and the Golden Pothos is still growing, you can apply fertilizer in an appropriate amount.

Home Golden Pothos Cultivation Methods and Precautions

1. Temperature and humidity should be suitable

The Golden Pothos likes a warm climate. When grown at home, the temperature needs to be maintained at around 20°C, and it must not be lower than 10°C. It is also necessary to avoid heating, air conditioning, and cold wind.

The Golden Pothos originates from tropical rainforests and has a relatively large demand for water. Generally, the air humidity requirement is maintained between 50-75%. Below 50%, leaves easily turn yellow and edges dry. You can increase air humidity by spraying water or sprinkling water.

It is best to water the Golden Pothos when the surface of the potting soil looks dry. During high-temperature periods in summer, it can be kept moist. In winter, if the ambient temperature is below 15°C, watering needs to alternate between dry and wet.

2. Likes light but fears strong light

The Golden Pothos likes light, but also avoids direct strong light. The care environment is best in a place with partial shade or sufficient scattered light. It cannot be kept in a shaded environment for a long time, otherwise the leaves easily turn yellow. Light also must not be too strong, lest the leaves whiten and lose their luster.

Hydroponic Method for Golden Pothos

1. Remove from pot

First, take the soil-cultivated Golden Pothos out of the flowerpot, remove the soil and rotten roots, and rinse it clean. During this process, be careful not to damage the root system of the Golden Pothos, so as not to affect its normal growth.

2. Disinfect

Soak the roots of the Golden Pothos in prepared potassium permanganate to disinfect for thirty minutes, then wash the stones and the planting basket.

3. Plant

Place the root system of the Golden Pothos into the planting basket, then add stones to fix it in place. Finally, put it into a hydroponic container filled with culture solution. The roots of the Golden Pothos should be submerged in 1/2-2/3 of the solution, leaving a portion exposed to the air. In this way, the hydroponic Golden Pothos is ready.

Can Golden Pothos Be Kept in the Bedroom

It can be placed in the bedroom. During the day it releases oxygen, absorbs carbon dioxide and other harmful substances, and purifies the air. However, the Golden Pothos has lush branches and leaves, and the leaf tips will consume a large amount of oxygen. To avoid competing with people for oxygen and affecting sleep, it is recommended to move it outside the room at night for care.

As mentioned above, in fact, Golden Pothos is often seen in office buildings, companies, work units, and homes. This is not only because the Golden Pothos is beautiful and elegant, but also because it is a very easy flowering plant to grow and does not require spending too much time on care.
