Shuangxi Reservoir geological dispute - Authoritative opinion: At least 4 to 5 unidentified undersea faults off the coast of Gongliao remain to be assessed, and the environmental impact assessment may be called into question
The Water Resources Agency restarted the Shuangxi Reservoir development plan. Legislator Huang Kuo-chang questioned the dam site geology and dam body safety at the Economics Committee of the Legislative Yuan on December 28. In response to the request for questioning, the Water Resources Agency held a forum on the morning of February 13 at the Taipei Water Source Specific Area Management Bureau, inviting the New Taipei City Government, experts and scholars, and local residents of Shuangxi to discuss geology and safety.
Since the Water Resources Agency restarted the Shuangxi Reservoir plan, the opposition camp has repeatedly opposed building the reservoir at Dinglankeng on the grounds that the soil and rock at the dam site are loose and have repeatedly collapsed, that many unregistered coal mining pit remains are present from the past, and that the Quchi Fault passes through the area; moreover, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake had just occurred in Hualien on February 6, making the fault activity at the dam site once again a prominent issue.
