Vervain is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows in the wild. Its flowers look small. This seemingly inconspicuous plant is also a sacred flower in Christianity, used in religious sacrifices, where it can achieve the effect of exorcising demons and subduing ghosts. So what are its planting methods, and what do we need to pay attention to during the process? Let's take a look below.

How to plant vervain

First, you can directly scatter the seeds evenly on the surface of the soil, with a spacing of about 25 cm between seeds, then cover them with a layer of soil about 1 cm to 1.5 cm thick, and then gently press with your hand. That is all.

Vervain planting methods

1. Vervain likes a dry, sunny environment. It is not very strict about soil requirements. It likes fertilizer and moisture, fears waterlogging, and is not tolerant of drought. It can grow in ordinary soil, but it grows robustly in deep, fertile loam and sandy loam, and should not be planted in low-lying waterlogged land. Do not water too much when planting.

2. Under normal temperature and humidity conditions, the seeds are sown for 10 to 20 days, when the plant height is 5 cm. Because the whole plant is harvested, do not deliberately leave a row, but the plant spacing in each row should be kept at about 10 cm to promote branching and the space needed for growth and development. Its seedlings can be transplanted. Weed and loosen the soil, and apply appropriate soil around the roots.

3. According to the planting results, no serious plant diseases and insect pests were found. Only after a long period of large amounts of water in the field did root rot occur, so as long as drainage is timely and the soil is properly managed, it can be avoided. For chemical control, use 50% of the bacterial count at 600 to 500 times dilution; the liquid can be applied to the roots carefully at an interval of 7 to 10 days, then once more.

Precautions for planting vervain

1. Keep the temperature between 20°C and 25°C, and the environment must not be too dry. Under such conditions, small sprouts can emerge in about 10 to 15 days. When the small sprouts grow to 5 cm high, they can be transplanted.

2. After transplanting, weed frequently. It can be said that whenever weeds are seen, they can be pulled out, so as to prevent the weeds from absorbing the plant's nutrients, and ordinary weeds generally grow relatively fast.

3. Water immediately when the soil is slightly dry. In order to strengthen the soil's air permeability and also reduce the occurrence of diseases and insect pests, loosen the soil appropriately after watering, which is very beneficial to the growth of young seedlings.

4. After transplanting, keep the environment dry and with ample sunlight.

What to do if vervain has root rot

Symptoms: This condition mostly occurs in high-humidity and rainy seasons. When it occurs, yellow-brown rusty spots appear on the middle and lower parts of the roots, which then gradually dry out and rot, causing the plant to die.

Control method: In the early stage of the disease, use a 1000-fold dilution of 50% tecloftalam, spray once every 15 days, for 3-4 consecutive sprays, or dig out the diseased plants and sprinkle lime powder for disinfection.

Vervain has certain requirements for soil and temperature when planting, so special attention must be paid during planting. If care is slightly improper, root rot is likely to occur, and we need to deal with it promptly, otherwise it will lead to the death of the plant. Although the planting process is arduous, when we see the result of its flowering, all the effort has not been wasted.
