How to grow thick roots on winter jasmine? Practical care methods shared
1. Potting
In the soil in the pot, we can add some substances, such as ash powder and other things containing potassium fertilizer, so that the root growth process can be accelerated. The formation of thick roots is then to be expected. Generally, a winter jasmine that is four to five years old will have its main root grown to the thickness of a thumb. At this time, we can carry out the operation of potting. The time is the day before late autumn, or the day before Qingming. At this time, what we need to do is dig out the whole tree, shake off the loose soil attached to the roots, carefully study the growth direction of the roots, and after determining the future root system, cut off all lateral roots and fibrous roots except the roots we need. The shape left by pruning the branches must be done with care, so that the future shape will still maintain a good standard. Two-thirds of this main root should be buried in the soil, and the remaining part should be in the air. In the second year, this pot should be washed with water by us, to achieve the purpose of gradually exposing the main trunk whose soil has been buried. Washing should be carried out many times. Each time it is washed, unwanted roots should be cut off in time, until the expected effect is achieved, making the main root into a bonsai.
2. Selecting cuttings
We can use the cutting method to cultivate thick roots. The timing is relatively flexible. This operation can be carried out in spring, summer, and autumn. If the branch we need is semi-lignified, insert it in sand and soil, keep it moist, and it can root in about 15 days. If a long branch is buried in sand, without carving, it can root in about 40-50 days, and then in the spring of the second year it can be separated from the mother plant, and a plant with very thick roots can be cultivated.
