Pothos is probably familiar to many people, and we can often see it in daily life. Pothos is currently one of the more popular houseplants on the market, and it can be grown either in soil or hydroponically. There are also many little tricks when growing it hydroponically, and if the method is wrong, it may cause some problems with hydroponic pothos

What to do when hydroponic pothos leaves turn yellow

1. Plenty of sunlight. It should be placed where there is plenty of scattered light, and during the growing period, water should often be sprayed on the leaf surface. Spraying 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate can restore the markings on the leaf surface to a vivid appearance. Use a larger (water surface) growing container as much as possible, and if conditions allow, oxygen can be added to the water.

2. Fertilizing. Spraying 1% urea is also fine. Every living thing has a life cycle, and it may also already be aging. Let everything take its natural course. Only after it turns withered and yellow will new leaves grow, so there is no need to worry.

3. Change the water frequently. Also, for hydroponics, change the water once a week. If conditions allow, putting in some maifan stone or small stones will effectively reduce the occurrence of yellow leaves. When changing the water, rinse the roots well and cut off diseased roots. Do not put in too much water; just enough to cover the roots. When growing in water, it is recommended to use cloth to wrap the pothos roots together with soil and sawdust, then put it in the water.

What to put in the water for hydroponic pothos

Hydroponic pothos can use hydroponic nutrient solution, which promotes rooting in hydroponic flowers and has anti-inflammatory and sterilizing effects. Add 1-2 drops each time you change the water.

Reasons hydroponic pothos leaves turn yellow

1. Sudden environmental change. Generally, newly bought pothos needs about 1 month to adapt to a new environment, and yellow leaves at the bottom are normal. However, remember: do not directly peel off yellow or dead leaves; cut them off from the middle of the leaf stalk. This avoids excessive water loss and extra wounds caused by direct peeling, which can cause the upper leaves to turn yellow as well.

2. Unsuitable light and temperature. Pothos likes a high-temperature, humid, semi-shaded environment and is not cold-tolerant; the overwintering temperature should not be lower than 10 degrees C. It is sensitive to temperature, and in summer it should avoid direct sunlight; under strong light, the leaves easily turn withered and yellow and fall off. In winter, it can grow well under bright scattered light indoors, and during the growing period it has relatively high water requirements.

3. Poor water quality. Hydroponic pothos may also turn yellow because there are bacteria in the water. If it is grown in tap water, it may be due to a high bleaching powder content in the water. Pothos itself is not tolerant of low temperatures. Long periods of low temperature together with too much water can cause root rot, leading to insufficient water supply from the roots, and finally the leaves at the roots begin to turn yellow and the leaves at the top lose their luster.

How to prune hydroponic pothos

1. For this kind of flower grown in water, to prevent it from growing too fast, looking unattractive, and having its root system squeezed, it needs to be pruned. When pruning it, be careful not to damage its aerial roots, so that after its roots are cut, it can grow water roots faster.

2. Generally, this kind of flower grown in water has a pole set up in the bottle. After it has climbed all over the pole, half of its stem tips can be cut off. If it has grown new buds and new leaves, the other half of the stem tips can also be cut off.

4. If you do not have a pole placed inside, cut off all branches and leaves that are more than 20 cm taller than the vase, and then be sure to take good care of it. Rotten leaves and withered leaves in other parts also need to be cut off. If the roots are too long, they also need to be shortened.

4. After pruning, place it in an area with wind and light to let it recover slowly, and spray some water on its leaves every day. Before long it will be very healthy. Clean its roots often, and if the roots are too long, prune them in time so that nutrients will not be lost. It especially likes cool and shaded areas, and normally it should not be exposed to harsh sunlight; the light needs to be softer.

The most common problem with hydroponic pothos is yellowing leaves. This phenomenon is generally caused by aspects such as light, fertilizer, and water, and to solve it, you need to start from these aspects. When growing pothos hydroponically, fertilizing is also needed, and some nutrient solution can be appropriately added to ensure its growth.
