With the improvement of living standards, eating fruit has become an indispensable part of people's lives, and we all know that eating fruit is very good for the human body. Mangosteen is a fruit with high nutritional value, basically suitable for all ages, but this fruit is relatively expensive, so you might consider growing it yourself.

How to Grow Mangosteen

1. After eating the mangosteen flesh, keep the seeds, wash them clean, put them in a small dish and soak them for about eight days, changing the water every day.

2. Bury the mangosteen seeds shallowly in seedling soil and wait for them to sprout. You must be patient and not dig them out to look, or they will not grow well. After about 30 days, the mangosteen pits grow red roots and white sprouts.

3. Bury the mangosteen pits in the soil. Note that the tender sprout should face up and the root should face down, then spread a thin layer of maifan stone and water thoroughly.

4. Soon the mangosteen stem emerges. In just one day, the leaves unfold, and within two weeks the leaves change color, from red to yellow, then to green.

5. After about five months, the mangosteen grows into a beautiful large potted plant.

Mangosteen Planting Methods and Precautions

I. Planting Methods

1. Soil environment

When planting mangosteen, it is best to choose soil with more nutrients and a planting site with a relatively thick soil layer. And whether you plant on wasteland or in fields, there must be a very convenient water source nearby. In addition, before planting we need to clear the weeds from the land, dig the land about 30 cm, and then add human and livestock manure. After processing the fertilizer and spreading it evenly, a drainage ditch also needs to be dug.

2. Clearing rhizomes and loosening soil

After planting mangosteen, the soil needs to be loosened and the rhizomes cleared once every year in July to August. That is, while loosening the soil for the plants, remove the old or poorly growing bamboo rhizomes, mainly because the mangosteen rhizomes can generally only sprout for 4 years. After processing, we should promptly use organic fertilizer to add nutrients to the mangosteen so that the new rhizomes can grow quickly and well. Around the second year of planting, we need to retain mother bamboo, generally retaining about 600 mother bamboo per mu.

3. Planting techniques

After retaining mother bamboo, mangosteen requires constant attention to fertilizer and water conditions. Mangosteen likes moisture and heat, so once the ground is dry it must be watered promptly, but water must not accumulate. Also, mangosteen is relatively prone to female yellow disease, generally during the growing period. Once found, spray pesticide immediately so as not to affect its later growth.

II. Precautions

Mangosteen is a perennial economic tree species. Like other fruit trees, it can only begin to yield after several years once planted, and once planted, the natural environment of the orchard will affect the growth and yield of the fruit trees for decades. Therefore, the choice of orchard site must be careful, and factors such as the topography and landforms suitable for mangosteen growth, soil environmental conditions and climatic conditions must be comprehensively considered.

Mangosteen Propagation Methods

1. Cutting propagation: Cut the stems and leaves of the plant and insert them into a seedbed so that they grow into a complete plant. This method is called cutting. The material used for cuttings (roots, stems, leaves) is called the cutting wood.

2. Grafting propagation: Graft the bud or branch of one plant onto another plant so that the two parts grow into one complete plant. The grafted bud or branch is called the scion, and the plant being grafted onto is called the rootstock.

3. Layering propagation: Using the branches of the mother plant, pressing them into the soil and adopting a certain method to make them take root, thereby obtaining a new plant. This method is called layering. For example, Chaenomeles speciosa and oleander have many and long mother branches that also take root when pressed into the soil, so layering propagation is mostly used. The layering method is easy to operate, requires no special management after layering, and has a high survival rate, so it is a commonly used propagation method for woody flowers.

4. Division propagation: Division propagation is the method of separating the tiller buds, bulbs, rhizomes, stolons, etc. of the plant from the mother plant and planting them separately to form independent new plants. The division method is divided into two types: full division and half division.

How to Fertilize Mangosteen

1. Fertilizer and water management in the first year after planting: When the young trees in the first year survive, it is still the dry season, and 1 application of urea water fertilizer is needed, which can be done together with watering. The amount applied per plant is 100 mL at a concentration of 2%, to promote the growth of mangosteen seedlings. At the beginning of the rainy season, apply 1 application of organic fertilizer plus calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer.

2. The fertilization pattern in the second year and the types of fertilizer are the same as in the first year. The difference is that the amount of fertilizer applied has changed. In the dry season, dissolve urea into a 2% water fertilizer and apply it 2 times in total, 100 mL per tree each time.

3. In the third year, in the dry season, when dissolving quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer into water fertilizer, the amount of nitrogen fertilizer increases to applying 2% urea 2 times per tree, 150 mL each time, 300 mL in total.

That is all for the mangosteen planting methods. I hope it is helpful to everyone. In fact, whether planting flowers or this kind of fruit tree, the first thing you need to understand is its growth habits. Once you have mastered this core, along with everyone's careful management, there will not be any difficulties.
