How to plant cherry tree saplings, and how many years until they bear fruit?
The appearance of cherries is very bright in color, and they are crystal-clear and beautiful. The color of cherries is red like agate, and yellow like congealed fat. The fruit contains very rich sugar, protein, vitamins, and various elements such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, and potassium. Therefore, the nutritional value of cherries is also very high. Many people also want to plant cherry trees at home. Today I will teach everyone how to plant cherry tree saplings.
How to plant cherry tree saplings
1. Before planting, first dig the planting pit. This is determined by the size of the planting stock. For saplings 2 years old or younger, dig 40 cm wide and 30 cm deep, and apply 3 jin of organic fertilizer or compound fertilizer per plant (farmyard manure must be rotted), or compound fertilizer (must be potassium sulfate type) with a content of 3 times 15 or 17. For planting 3-4 year old saplings, dig 60-80 cm wide and 40-50 cm deep, and apply 4-5 jin of organic fertilizer per plant.
2. When planting, place the sapling flat in the hole so that the root system spreads naturally. During planting, lift the sapling slightly so that the roots and soil are completely in close contact, then firm the soil. The planting depth can be 5 cm deeper than the original depth of the sapling. When applying mixed fertilizer, apply the fertilizer around the upper part of the roots, not directly in contact with the roots. First fill in some soil, then apply fertilizer.
How many years until cherry trees bear fruit
1. Cherry trees can bear fruit in 4-7 years. Cherry is the English transliteration of yingtao. Cherry originated in the Caribbean region of the West Indies in tropical America, so it is also called West Indian cherry. It is suitable for growing in tropical and subtropical regions with abundant rainfall, sufficient sunlight, and suitable temperature. It is famous for being rich in vitamin C and is recognized worldwide as the “king of natural VC” and the “fruit of life”. The initial fruiting period of cherry is 4-7 years.
2. Although its fruit is as small as a pearl, it is bright red and glossy, exquisite like agate and gemstones. Its taste is sweet with slight sourness. It can be eaten fresh, pickled, or used as a garnish for other dishes and foods, and is highly favored.
What temperature is most suitable for planting cherries
1. During planting, be sure to pay attention to whether the time of low-temperature cold waves in spring each year overlaps with the flowering period. Places where unfavorable weather (frost, snow, strong wind) occurs during the cherry flowering period year after year cannot be planted. Even in places where disastrous weather rarely occurs, suitable small terrain should still be selected for planting when establishing an orchard. Compared with true cherries, Nanking cherry is extremely cold-resistant and suitable for planting in Northeast China.
2. Saplings have weak cold resistance and prefer a warm and humid climate. They are suitable for cultivation in places with an annual average temperature of 15-16°C. The dormancy period of cherry saplings is relatively short. When the temperature warms up in late winter and early spring, new buds are likely to sprout. If a “late spring cold” (frost or snow) occurs, the flower organs may freeze, even seriously affecting yield or resulting in no harvest at all.
3. The suitable annual rainfall for the growth of cherry saplings is generally 700-1000 mm. In some southern regions, when establishing an orchard, full consideration should be given to how to solve the problem of “spring drought”. This is because drought in the early stage of fruit growth can cause severe fruit drop and affect fruit growth and development. Cherry saplings are light-loving tree species, while Chinese cherry is more shade-tolerant, but with good light the fruit ripening period is earlier.
What are the planting conditions for cherries
1. Cherries are very sensitive to moisture conditions. They are neither drought-resistant nor waterlogging-tolerant. In the cultivation areas of Chinese cherries, apart from southern provinces with abundant rainfall, the north mostly chooses hillside and valley areas with relatively humid microclimates for cultivation. From the perspective of the cultivation distribution areas of sweet cherries around the world, most are chosen near river systems or coastal areas.
2. At present, the main cultivation areas of sweet cherries in China are mostly distributed in Yantai, Shandong, and Dalian, Liaoning, around the Bohai Bay. These two places are close to the sea, with annual rainfall of 600-900 mm, and the air is relatively humid. The annual rainfall does not exceed 250 mm, and the rainfall during the growing season does not exceed 150 mm.
3. The sweet cherry production areas in Ukraine are mainly distributed in summer drought areas near the Black Sea coast, with annual rainfall not exceeding 300 mm and little rainfall from July to September, but these areas have suitable temperature, sufficient sunlight, and good irrigation conditions.
In the above text, I have briefly taught everyone some methods for planting cherries. Be sure to remember that cherries have relatively weak cold resistance and like sunny, relatively warm places. Therefore, when planting cherries, everyone must choose the location well.
