How much does a strawberry plant cost? Market prices and growing methods
The strawberry is a fairly common fruit in our daily lives, with a bright red exterior that is very cute. Strawberries have high edible value and a sweet-and-sour taste, so they are deeply loved by people. Many people now grow strawberries, but before planting, everyone should still have a comprehensive understanding of their market price and growing methods.
How much does a strawberry plant cost on the market
The price of strawberry seedlings is about 0.6-1.0 yuan per plant. The common strawberry fruit is long conical with a flat tip, a large-sized fruit, with an average single fruit weight of 28.6 grams and a maximum single fruit weight of 87 grams, bright red on the sunny side, orange-red on the shaded side, glossy and extremely attractive, with deep orange-red flesh, lots of juice, and a sweet, rich aroma. It is high-yielding, stable-yielding, and strongly resistant, suitable for both greenhouse and open-field cultivation.
Strawberry seedling growing methods
1. Site selection: The strawberry plot should preferably be one with sufficient sunlight, slightly higher terrain, level ground, convenient irrigation and drainage, fertile and loose soil, and a previous crop of legumes or onion and garlic vegetables. The plot should first be cleared of weeds and soil-dwelling pests.
2. Land preparation and bed making: One week after preparing the strawberry plot, apply per mu 5000 kg of high-quality decomposed farmyard manure, 100 kg of superphosphate, and 50 kg of potassium chloride as base fertilizer. Combine this with deep plowing of the plot, then prepare the land and make beds. The greenhouse length is limited to 20 m, with 4 beds inside.
3. Transplanting technique: To strive for a market launch from the end of January to early February, strawberry seedlings from the propagation nursery should be transplanted onto the greenhouse beds in early September. Seedlings should be transplanted as soon as they are lifted, with 2 rows per bed, a row spacing of 27 cm, a hole spacing of 20 cm, and 12000 plants per mu.
4. Water supplementation and shading: For seedlings transplanted in early September, in addition to timely water supplementation, a shade net should be added for shade, with the net 1.2 m above the ground for easy worker operation. At the same time, promptly remove dead leaves, old leaves, axillary buds, and stolons, keeping 5-6 leaves.
5. Flower bud management: Strawberry flower bud differentiation requires relatively low temperatures and short-day conditions. Straw mats can be added over the shade net, and by uncovering and covering the straw mats, short-day conditions and relatively low temperatures can be created artificially to promote the differentiation of the terminal inflorescence and axillary inflorescences.
6. Drainage and irrigation: Irrigate strawberries once each during flowering and the early stage of berry growth. Furrow irrigation is preferable, with water filled to 2/3 of the furrow height, allowing water to gradually seep into the bed soil, and draining excess water from the furrow. If there is drought, irrigate once every 5-7 days; in rainy autumn, drain promptly.
Strawberry fertilization techniques
1. Base fertilizer: Before planting strawberries, deeply plow the soil 25-35 cm, and combine with plowing to apply per mu 450-500 kg of commercial organic fertilizer or 3500-4000 kg of high-quality farmyard manure, 5-6 kg of urea, 15-20 kg of diammonium phosphate, and 5-6 kg of potassium sulfate.
2. Topdressing: From when strawberries begin to grow until before the flowering stage, apply per mu 9-10 kg of urea and 4-6 kg of potassium sulfate; during the berry swelling stage, apply per mu 11-13 kg of urea and 7-8 kg of potassium sulfate. After a large number of fruits set, topdress as needed.
3. Foliar fertilizer: Spraying humic acid organic-inorganic liquid compound fertilizer on the leaves before and after the flowering stage of strawberries can increase the fruit-setting rate and improve fruit quality and increase single fruit weight. Spraying 0.2% calcium sulfate plus 0.05% manganese sulfate at the initial and full flowering stages can increase yield and fruit storage performance.
Common strawberry diseases and their control
1. Gray mold. Before planting, broadcast per mu 5-6 kg of 25% carbendazim powder, then harrow it into the soil. In the early stage of the disease, spray 50% procymidone 1500 times liquid, 1:1:200 Bordeaux mixture, 40% carbendazim-sulfur suspension 600 times liquid, or 50% gray mold spirit 500 times liquid for control, spraying once every 6-8 days, and spraying 2-3 times consecutively depending on the disease severity.
2. Root rot. In the seedling nursery, disinfect seedlings 3 times with 50% procymidone; before transplanting, thoroughly disinfect the soil or treat it with high temperature. Do not plant diseased seedlings. When lifting and transplanting seedlings, soak the seedling roots in a kresoxim-methyl medicinal solution. After planting, promptly remove old leaves, apply more organic fertilizer, and apply less nitrogen fertilizer to cultivate strong seedlings. Water reasonably and prevent water accumulation in the greenhouse.
The price of strawberry plants is relatively affordable. After buying them to take home and plant, be sure to choose a good location and then plant them at the right time. Management after planting is also very important. Fertilization and disease control work must be done well. Only in this way can strawberries be guaranteed to grow well.
