Cherry is a fairly common fruit; cherries have high edible value and good taste, which is why many people are attracted to growing them. However, when growing cherry trees, if you want them to grow well, fertilization is also crucial. When fertilizing, besides choosing the right fertilizer, the choice of timing is also very important.

What Fertilizer Is Best for Cherry Trees

1. Pre-bloom fertilizer, mainly nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer, to promptly replenish the tree's nutrients, promote flower bud sprouting and spring shoot growth.

2. Fruit-swelling fertilizer, mainly nitrogen and potassium fertilizer, applied together with phosphorus fertilizer, to promote fruit expansion, reduce physiological fruit drop, improve fruit quality, and at the same time replenish the tree's nutrients.

3. Topdressing before fruit coloring, mainly quick-acting potassium fertilizer, applied 20-25 days before harvest.

4. Supplemental fertilizer after harvest, mainly quick-acting fertilizer, preferably compound fertilizer.

Cherry Tree Fertilization Schedule

1. Autumn base fertilizer: autumn application is gold, winter application is silver, spring application is scrap copper and iron (best in late August to early September).

2. Topdressing in early spring (after the thawing water in March until before blooming).

3. Topdress once after the flowers fall.

4. Topdressing half a month before harvest: 15-20 days before cherry harvest

Fertilization Methods for Cherry Trees

1. Pay attention to early-stage topdressing. From blooming to fruit ripening, cherries need only 40-60 days, and nutrients are needed in a concentrated way. Therefore, in fertilization management, besides the autumn base fertilizer, topdressing should also be carried out before sprouting and in the early stage of fruit development. The first application is mainly quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer, and the second application is nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer or special fertilizer for fruit trees.

2. Pay attention to fertilizing after harvest. After the fruit is harvested, in order to enhance the tree's nutrient accumulation and promote flower bud differentiation, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium compound fertilizer can be applied as topdressing.

3. Apply sufficient base fertilizer. It is best to apply it early in autumn; generally, in September-October each year, combined with plowing, apply 2000-5000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer (barnyard manure, soil and miscellaneous manure, or human and livestock manure are all acceptable) per 667 sq m.

4. Foliar topdressing. Spraying a mixture of 0.3% urea, 0.1-0.2% borax, and 0.2-0.4% potassium dihydrogen phosphate at full bloom has a good effect on increasing yield. Fertilization Methods for Cherry Trees 5. Fertilization methods: cherry trees have poorly developed vertical roots, and the root system is shallowly distributed in the soil, but the horizontal roots are well developed. For fertilization during the growing season, to reduce root damage, radial ditch application or concentrated hole application can be used.

How to Water Cherry Trees

1. Pre-bloom: water is for the budding and blooming period. During this period the temperature is low, so the amount of irrigation water should be small, just enough to create a "water-retaining ground," so as to avoid lowering the soil temperature and affecting root growth. Use reservoir water or pond water for irrigation. Well water is low in temperature, so to better raise it, store it in a basin first and let the large cherry seedlings be exposed to sunlight, or allow it to flow through a long channel and warm up with the water flow, then irrigate once.

2. Water for the fruit-setting and fruit-ripening stage, which is the time when large cherries are most sensitive to moisture. Is there a requirement for latitude and longitude when planting large cherry trees? This irrigation must be done diligently, and the amount of water must be large, generally irrigating 2-3 times, so that the moisture content of the 10-30 cm deep soil layer reaches more than 12%. When irrigating, square or rectangular ditches should be established between the rows of the large cherry orchard. The soil near the branches must be slightly higher where it emerges, and the surrounding soil paths should all be at a certain level, from drought, to prevent the low areas from being affected by the high areas. For sandy large cherry orchards, irrigate about 2 cubic meters each time on average.

3. At picking time, when water is available in places with sufficient water sources, after the fruit is picked, if the weather is dry, some workers will fertilize and dig for irrigation, to speed up the fertilizer effect and promote flower bud differentiation.

Cherry tree fertilization will vary somewhat in the fertilizer chosen depending on the timing. When fertilizing cherry trees, generally apply sufficient base fertilizer and topdressing, etc. In addition, cherry trees also need timely watering, and the amount of water before and after blooming is different.
