Figs are surely familiar to many people; they are a common fruit. Nowadays many people have started growing figs, but when growing figs, if there are issues with certain techniques, it can lead to yellow leaves, so what should be done? What are some tips for fertilizing them normally?

What Fertilizer Is Best for Figs

When fertilizing figs, attention must be paid to the rational balance of nutrient elements. Today the editor recommends a relatively easy-to-use fertilizer - Boka Fig Special. The fertilizer is a water-soluble fertilizer that can supplement the growth needs of figs, meet the nutrients required by figs, make figs grow more robust, and thereby achieve the goal of high yield.

How to Deal with Yellow Leaves on Figs

1. Wilting leaves are only a temporary lack of water, and a thorough watering can quickly restore them. The appearance of yellow leaves just means it is still adapting; even if all the leaves fall off in the future, as long as its branches are firm, new shoots will sprout again in the future.

2. Due to climate issues, at this time the fig may be in the late growth stage, preparing for winter, which means it is not far from true leaf-drop dormancy. If new branches appear, it is estimated that this may wait until the weather warms up next spring (around March or April).

3. Caused by pests, at this time you should find out which type of pest is doing the damage so that the right remedy can be applied. Suggestion: treat it casually, because it was just transplanted not long ago and is facing the leaf-drop dormancy period, so it itself does not need much fertilizer; be sure not to fertilize. For watering, look at the surface soil, water alternately dry and wet, and do not let the soil become too dry or too wet. It needs to be placed in scattered light and a ventilated place. When leaves begin to sprout in spring, then let it get sunlight.

How to Fertilize Figs

1. Base fertilizer. For base fertilizer applied to figs, generally applying barnyard manure from mid-November to early December after leaf drop is best. For the required amount of adult trees, calculate the actual application amount of different types of base fertilizer according to the amount of nitrogen 100~120kg, phosphorus 80~100kg, and potassium 80~100kg supplemented per hectare. For the fertilization method, a fertilization trench 30cm wide and 30~50cm deep can be dug between rows or between plants, and the base fertilizer applied into it.

2. Topdressing. The growth of fig branches and leaves and the development of fruit are synchronized and mutually reinforcing, and the demand for nutrients is balanced. If possible, topdressing should be applied 7~8 times each year; generally it should also reach 3~4 times. If the base fertilizer can be applied sufficiently, the first topdressing should be in May when new shoots are growing vigorously, mainly nitrogen fertilizer, with an application rate of 200~300kg per hectare. During the fruit ripening period from August to October, topdressing should be applied 2~3 times, mainly compound fertilizer, with 250~300kg per hectare each time. The fertilization method is the same as for base fertilizer. In addition, spraying 0.3%~0.5% potassium dihydrogen phosphate or a compound fertilizer mainly of nitrogen and potassium can also achieve the effect of enlarging the fruit and reducing cracking.

How to Water Figs

1. Watering must supplement water in time according to the soil moisture conditions of figs. The main water-demand periods for figs are the sprouting period, the rapid new-shoot growth period, and the fruit growth and development period. In addition to traditional furrow irrigation and hole irrigation, drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation can be used where conditions permit.

2. Figs should not be watered too much at one time, especially during the fruit ripening and harvest period. Avoid excessive changes in soil dryness and wetness, and always maintain stable and suitable soil moisture, so as to avoid increased fruit cracking. In addition, figs have strong drought resistance and weak waterlogging tolerance, so special attention should be paid to timely drainage during the plum rain season, and timely hoeing and loosening the soil after rain.

There are many fertilizers for figs, and when choosing, everyone can consult local markets more. If yellow leaves appear on figs, do not panic first; it is generally caused by lack of water, pests, and other aspects. Observe carefully first, then find out the cause, and then solve it thoroughly.
