How to Grow Boletus Mushrooms? A Detailed Explanation of Key Cultivation Techniques
The boletus mushroom is a relatively precious and rare wild edible fungus, mainly distributed in Yunnan and other regions of China. The boletus mushroom gets its name because its flesh is thick and plump, closely resembling the beef liver we are familiar with. The boletus mushroom has high nutritional value and a delicious taste, and is loved by many people. However, due to a lack of knowledge about its cultivation methods, many people can only obtain it by purchasing.
How to Grow Boletus Mushrooms
Artificial cultivation of boletus mushrooms requires sterile operation to ensure a high yield of finished products after inoculation. The specific operational requirements are as follows:
1. Environmental purification: Use an inoculation room, inoculation box, or inoculation tent for inoculation. Disinfect in advance using an aerosol disinfectant at 5-8 grams per cubic meter, ignited to produce gas for disinfection.
2. Spawn pretreatment: First remove the cotton plug from the mouth of the spawn bottle, wrap the bottle or bag mouth with a plastic bag, then move it into the inoculation room. Next, insert an inoculation spatula into the spawn bottle or bag, and dig out the aged mycelial membrane on the surface. If white nodular masses of substrate appear, these should also be dug out. Use a cotton ball dipped in 75% alcohol to wipe clean the inner walls around the bottle, then move it into the inoculation room. If it is spawn with a tied bag opening, after opening the bag mouth and treating the spawn in the same way, twist the bag opening closed and move it into the inoculation box for inoculation.
Boletus Mushroom Cultivation Techniques
The sterile operation technical procedures for the inoculation step of boletus mushrooms mainly involve mastering the following five aspects.
① Choose the time: Choose to inoculate at midnight or early morning on a sunny day, when the temperature is low and contaminating microorganisms are in a dormant state, which helps improve the finished product rate of bag inoculation.
② Bringing inoculation materials indoors: After moving plastic bags into the sterile room or inoculation tent, together with the spawn, inoculation tools, and alcohol lamp, carry out a second disinfection. First fumigate with an aerosol agent for more than 30 minutes. Then, 40-60 minutes before inoculation, irradiate with an ultraviolet lamp for 30 minutes to achieve sterile conditions.
③ Inoculate quickly: Open the bag mouth and untie the string, or if using a ring and cotton plug, pull out the cotton plug. Insert the spawn into the bag, then re-tie the bag mouth or restore the cotton plug to seal the opening. If cultivating in bottles, uncover the film covering the bottle mouth, and restore it after inoculation.
④ Renew the air: After each batch of material bags is inoculated, open doors and windows for ventilation for 30-40 minutes, then close the doors and windows, disinfect again, and continue inoculating.
⑤ Clean up residues: During the inoculation process, waste covering films from spawn bottles, especially wood chips and other debris on the workbench and floor, must be gathered in one corner and not thrown around. After each batch of material bags is inoculated, combined with ventilation, carry out a cleanup to keep the site clean and eliminate contamination by stray microorganisms.
Origin and Distribution of Boletus Mushrooms
The main producing area of boletus mushrooms is Yunnan. The boletus mushroom is a major specialty of Yunnan. There are many species of this fungus, about 26 species nationwide, and Yunnan has 22 species, of which 11 are unique to Yunnan. There are about 14 varieties of boletus mushrooms that people love and are familiar with, such as Jian Shou Qing and Hong Jian Shou.
Yunnan Province is rich in boletus mushroom resources, with many excellent edible varieties, mainly white, yellow, and black boletus mushrooms. The white boletus mushroom, also called the king bolete, grows in pine-oak mixed forests at altitudes between 900 meters and 2,200 meters, or in forest edge areas that have been recently logged. Its growing season is from the end of May to mid-October each year, and it grows more abundantly after rain followed by clear weather, making it easy to harvest.
Variety Classification of Boletus Mushrooms
1. White boletus mushroom: The scientific name of the white boletus mushroom is the king bolete, also known as big-foot mushroom, white ox-head, yellow qiaoba, etc. Its growing season is from the end of May to mid-October each year, and it grows more abundantly after rain followed by clear weather, making it easy to harvest.
2. Yellow boletus mushroom: The yellow boletus mushroom has a plump fruiting body, the most robust among boletus mushrooms. It has a sweet taste and is believed to have effects such as clearing heat and relieving restlessness, nourishing blood and harmonizing the middle, dispelling wind and cold, relaxing muscles and invigorating blood, and tonifying deficiency and boosting energy. It is one of the raw materials for the traditional Chinese medicine preparation “Shujin Wan”, and is also a good gynecological medicine that can be used to treat certain gynecological diseases that women are prone to.
3. Black boletus mushroom: The black boletus mushroom is an edible mushroom. Both its exterior and flesh are black. It is rich in nutrients, crisp in texture, and delicious in taste. It is not only good in flavor but also has nutritional value.
4. Red boletus mushroom: The red boletus mushroom is a famous edible fungus that people enjoy eating. It is also known as Jian Shou Qing (it turns blue-green after touching the mushroom's ridges with your hand). It has an extremely high reputation in China and is called a precious mountain treasure. Its flesh is thick and plump, and it is rich in nutrients.
There are quite a few varieties of boletus mushrooms, and each of these varieties has its own characteristics. Everyone can choose according to their own needs. However, the cultivation techniques for boletus mushrooms require a sterile environment, so when planting, everyone must provide the correct growing environment.
