There are many cultivation methods for the elm oyster mushroom, for example: indoor mushroom brick cultivation. For this method, the process is very simple, easy to operate, and contamination is not easy to occur. Ordinary farmers can grow it without restrictive conditions, and it is more suitable for planting in home courtyards, which can increase income. So how exactly should the elm oyster mushroom be grown for the best results? Let's learn about it together with the editor.

Elm Oyster Mushroom Cultivation Techniques

1. Seasonal arrangement. The golden-top mushroom belongs to the medium-temperature type of fungi. Mycelium can grow within a range of 7-32°C, with 22-26°C being the most suitable, but it is not tolerant of high temperatures and dies rapidly above 40°C. Fruit body formation and growth can occur at 14-28°C, with 20-24°C being the most suitable. According to the characteristics of the fungus, the natural temperatures of spring and autumn are more suitable for the cultivation season. For spring planting, inoculation is done in March, and mushrooms grow and are harvested in April-May; for autumn planting, inoculation is done in September, and mushrooms grow and are harvested in October-November.

2. Raw material treatment. Choose non-moldy cottonseed hulls or mixed wood sawdust as the raw material, mix with 1.5% quicklime to make lime water; additionally add 3000-fold phoxim solution. The moisture content of the culture material should be controlled at 60%-70%, stir evenly, and ferment the whole pile for 3-5 days. When the material temperature reaches 60-70°C and the pH value is 7-7.5, it is ready.

3. Bagging and inoculation, bag cultivation: use (20-22 cm) × 55 cm polyethylene plastic bags to fill with culture material, inoculate at both ends, and sprinkle 2 layers of spawn at equal distances in the middle, then prick ventilation holes with a needle. Each bag holds 1 kg of dry material, with a wet weight of 2.3 kg. Each bottle of 750 g of spawn can inoculate 4 bags.

Efficient Cultivation Methods for Elm Oyster Mushroom

1. Bagging and inoculation. Spread out the material pile, adjust the pH of the culture material to 7-8, and then bag and inoculate. The method is the same as for oyster mushrooms. For mycelium growth management, the temperature of the mycelium growth site should not exceed 25°C, and the relative air humidity should preferably be 60%-70%. At the same time, pay attention to shading and ventilation. The shed temperature should be controlled below 28°C; if it exceeds 28°C, pay attention to spreading the piles to cool down or ventilating to cool down.

2. One week after mycelium growth begins, check the mycelium germination. If the mycelium does not germinate, supplement with spawn; if a small amount of contaminating bacteria is found, strengthen ventilation and cooling in the mycelium growth room to control or inhibit the development of contaminating bacteria. If the temperature is too low, insulation and heating are also needed to ensure normal growth and development of the mycelium. Generally, the mycelium can grow fully through the entire bag in 25-30 days.

3. Fruiting management. After the mycelium has fully grown through the bag, maintain for another 3-7 days, and then fruiting management can begin. In production, mushroom wall fruiting management is mostly used, and the stacking method for the mushroom wall is the same as for oyster mushrooms. After the mushroom wall is built, water is poured on top of the wall, and the temperature of the mushroom house (shed) is kept at 15-20°C, with air humidity at 85%-95%.

Cultivation Requirements for Elm Oyster Mushroom

1. The elm oyster mushroom has strong growth ability, fruits quickly, has a short growth period, and high yield. It can be cultivated both on logs and in bags. The mycelium has strong vitality and can grow and develop on sawdust media of broadleaf trees such as elm, poplar, birch, linden, Manchurian ash, and pagoda tree, and can also grow and develop on sawdust media of Korean pine, sandy pine, fish-scale pine, fir, and cypress, though the yield is very low.

2. It can also grow and develop on cottonseed hulls, waste cotton, corn cobs, peanut shells, bean shells, wheat straw, rice straw, tea residue, and spent culture material from previously cultivated straw mushrooms and button mushrooms. Among these, cultivation of elm oyster mushroom with cottonseed hulls, waste cotton, and corn cobs gives relatively higher yields.

3. The mycelium growth and development temperature range is 7-32°C, with the optimum growth temperature being 23-27°C. Above 45°C, the mycelium dies after 2 hours, but it can endure low temperatures of minus 38°C. The fruit body formation temperature is 10-28°C, with the optimum growth temperature being 15-25°C. It can grow at pH 5-7, with pH 5-6.5 being the most suitable.

Growth Characteristics of Elm Oyster Mushroom

The fruit bodies of the elm oyster mushroom mostly grow in clusters or tufts, appearing golden yellow. The cap is trumpet-shaped, smooth, 2-10 cm wide, fleshy, with an inward-curling margin, and the flesh is white. The gills are white, decurrent, slightly dense, and of unequal length. The stipe is white to pale yellow, eccentric, 2-12 cm long, 0.5-1.5 cm thick, with fine hairs; most fruit bodies grow together, and the elm oyster mushroom is golden yellow in color, gorgeous and beautiful, delightful to look at, with an appearance just like a beautiful flower.

Therefore, during its growth, there must be fresh air and a certain amount of light, but temperature and humidity must be controlled to create dry conditions. With scientific management, it will bring a good return.
