The winged bean is a light-loving plant, but it usually cannot be exposed to light for too long. If it gets too much light, it will mature relatively late, thereby affecting yield and quality. But prolonged exposure to the sun can easily cause excessive vegetative growth, and then it will bloom better and better; the result is that the winged bean does not grow well. So how should winged beans be planted to do well? Follow along with the editor below to learn about it.

When to plant winged beans (what season)

When to plant winged beans depends on the location. The South is relatively warm, so sowing is generally from March to June, while the North is relatively cold, so sowing is generally around June. Why choose these months? Because 28°C to 30°C is suitable for germination, so planting should be done according to the local temperature conditions.

Winged bean planting techniques

1. Choosing and preparing the land: Winged beans like fertile, loose soil, preferably fairly neutral soil that drains and breathes well. Before sowing, some fertilizer needs to be added at the bottom as a base fertilizer. Preferably there should be 1,000 to 5,000 kg of organic fertilizer per mu, 50 kg of phosphate fertilizer, 500 kg of plant ash and burnt soil ash. Then open furrows 20-25 cm high and 50-60 cm wide, and put 2-3 seeds in each hole.

2. Sowing period: Propagation can usually be done with seeds or tuberous roots. Sowing with seeds is the simplest, but the seed coat is usually hard and not easy to germinate. In order to increase the germination rate, measures are usually taken to treat the seeds, such as sunning the seeds, generally for 1 to 2 days, and soaking them, either in warm water for 15 minutes or in clear water for 24 hours, so that the germination rate can be greatly increased. When the seedlings grow 4 to 6 leaves, they will be moved to a larger, more open field for planting.

Growing conditions for winged beans

1. Winged beans originate from tropical regions, so they have temperature requirements. However, tropical regions have plenty of light, so at this time they need sufficient light duration, about 11 to 12 hours. If the light is poor, it easily causes poor development.

2. Winged beans like a relatively warm and humid climate and are not suitable for frost. Generally, keeping the temperature between 20-25°C is the most suitable planting temperature, and it is also the temperature suitable for seed germination.

3. Winged beans need a relatively developed root system, so they are relatively resistant to dryness, but they are not suitable for too much water; a humid environment is most suitable. During the flowering and fruiting period, sufficient water is needed at this time; being too dry can easily cause low yield.

In recent years, winged beans have gradually come into consumers' view and are increasingly favored by consumers. As a nutritious and delicious organic food, they still have a very good market, and for growers, they are also a good entrepreneurial project. Of course, whether they are grown well or not plays the most critical role.
