Key Points of Chinese Artichoke Planting Technology and Field Management Methods
AbstractChinese artichoke planting requires preparing the land first in March each year, with beds generally 20cm high and 120cm wide. Chinese artichoke sowing begins in late March, and high-quality seeds need to be selected for sowing. About one month after planting, watering and fertilizing are needed. For pest and disease control, main attention should be paid to flies (Muscidae); once discovered, they must be dealt with promptly, otherwise the plants will develop root rot. When harvesting Chinese artichoke, care must be taken with the underground stems to prevent them from being broken during digging.
1. Land preparation
The soil requirements for Chinese artichoke planting are relatively loose and fertile soil. Before planting, common farm fertilizers such as plant ash need to be added. Land preparation is generally carried out in March each year, forming beds and irrigation and drainage ditches, with beds generally 20cm high and 120cm wide.
2. Chinese artichoke sowing
Sowing begins around late March. After the Chinese artichoke sprouts new shoots, dig them out, then select high-quality ones from the new shoots as seeds, and divide the stems into sections, with each section 10-15cm long, and each section having two to three buds. Then prepare for planting, with each plant spaced 10cm apart, and the row spacing being 2.5 times the plant spacing, and open a ditch 4-6cm deep.
3. Chinese artichoke management
About one month after planting, new shoots grow. When the shoots reach 10cm, water once, then apply fertilizer once, and weed. Especially in summer, because growth is fast, manual intervention can be carried out to slow down its growth rate. However, if there is drought, attention should be paid to watering and fertilizing, especially in autumn, because growth is slow, so more fertilizer should be added, and some easily absorbed fertilizer can be sprayed.
4. Pest and disease control
Although there are relatively few pests and diseases harmful to Chinese artichoke, there is still one kind of fly (Muscidae) insect, but it can be controlled through relevant sprays. If not dealt with promptly, rot will occur. After timely treatment, remember to use lime for disinfection.
5. Harvesting Chinese artichoke
After snow falls in winter, part of the Chinese artichoke above ground will wither, but things grow underground. After spring begins, harvesting starts, but care must be taken with the underground stems so they are not broken during digging. On average, one mu of land can produce 800 kilograms or more.
