SummaryApple trees need to grow in a low-temperature and dry environment. Fertile, deep, well-drained and loose soil will promote the growth rate of apple trees and improve apple yield and quality. If apples are planted in areas with insufficient or unevenly distributed rainfall, irrigation and drainage facilities need to be built in the orchard. The temperature for growing apples is best controlled at around 12°C-25°C, but in winter, to ensure that apple trees can enter normal dormancy, the temperature needs to be below 8°C.

Apples have strong growth ability and adaptability. In a suitable growing environment, apples grow very quickly and also have high yields. There are many apple varieties. When planting apples, the choice of varieties should be made according to the local environment, weather, soil and some other external factors.

1. Soil requirements

Soil has a certain effect on the growth rate, yield and quality of apples. When planting apples, soil with deep soil layers, convenient drainage, loose texture, fertility and organic matter should be chosen. The pH of the soil is best between 5-8. To ensure good quality and taste of the apples, never choose poor, highly alkaline or poorly permeable clay soil for planting apples.

2. Light requirements

Apples like to grow in an environment with sufficient sunlight. Only with sufficient light will the photosynthesis of apple trees promote strong plant growth and produce more and better apples in both quantity and quality. If sunlight in the growing environment is insufficient, apple trees will show excessive vegetative growth, weak branches and leaves, poor disease resistance, poor root growth, low fruiting rate and insufficient fruit sugar content, failed coloring and other phenomena. Therefore, to ensure normal growth of apple trees and improve apple yield and quality, sufficient sunlight must be ensured when planting.

3. Precipitation

Water plays an important role in the growth of apples. Generally, of natural precipitation, fruit trees can actually absorb about 1/3. During the growth period of apple trees, as long as precipitation of 540 mm is ensured, their growth needs can be met. From April to September each year, if apples are planted in areas with precipitation below 450 ml, the fruit trees need to be irrigated. In the northern regions of our country, precipitation is unevenly distributed, precipitation in spring is insufficient, and 70-80% of the precipitation is concentrated between July and August. In inland areas of our country with relatively little precipitation, because of insufficient water, when building orchards, irrigation, soil moisture conservation facilities and rainy season drainage facilities need to be built well to ensure that apple trees can grow normally and to guarantee apple yield and quality.

4. Temperature requirements

Apple trees like to grow in a low-temperature and dry environment. They have strong cold resistance and heat tolerance. The suitable growth temperature is between 12-25°C. If the planting temperature is below 12°C or above 30°C, it will affect the growth of apple trees. To ensure that apple trees can enter normal dormancy, the temperature in winter is best controlled below 8°C. Only after the apple trees have dormant will they continue to sprout in spring.
