How many years does a hawthorn tree generally take to bear fruit?
SummaryA hawthorn tree will bloom and bear fruit 2-4 years after planting. A 10-year-old hawthorn tree enters its full fruiting period. As the tree ages, the yield also keeps increasing. A 50-70-year-old hawthorn tree can produce 100 kg per tree, and a large tree can produce 300 kg per tree. It is best to plant hawthorn in warm regions. In China, hawthorn is grown in places such as Shandong, Shaanxi, Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia.

When the tree is 50-70 years old, the yield of the hawthorn tree can reach 100 kg per tree, and a large tree can reach 300 kg per tree. The decline period of the hawthorn tree comes relatively late; even at 60-70 years old, it will not decline.
Where is the hawthorn tree suitable for planting
The hawthorn tree should be planted and grown in a warm environment. If planted in a hot region, it will affect the growth and development of the hawthorn tree. Some varieties of hawthorn tree have strong cold resistance, but to allow the hawthorn tree to grow normally, it is best not to plant hawthorn in severely cold regions.
The leaves of hawthorn can resist cold, and its fruit does not contain much water, but the soil temperature in the area where hawthorn is planted must not be too low, and the groundwater level should also be as low as possible, to ensure that the hawthorn tree roots can absorb enough nutrients and water and grow normally.
At present, there are many regions in China where hawthorn is grown, including Shandong, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Jiangsu, Hebei, Zhejiang, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia and Henan.
Propagation methods of the hawthorn tree
1. Root sucker propagation: Every year, many root suckers that can be cultivated into rootstock seedlings emerge under the hawthorn tree. In spring, dig the root suckers out of the soil and plant them in the nursery according to the size of the seedlings. The planting spacing is best controlled at about 15-20×35-40cm. Before planting the seedlings, first turn and level the soil, spread about 10 kg of Yifuyuan planting bacterial liquid into the soil, and also apply fertilizer. After planting, water promptly and strengthen daily management. By autumn, grafting can be carried out.
2. Root segment cutting propagation: Move the seedlings out of the orchard, collect the broken roots obtained when fertilizing and turning the soil in the orchard, and cut roots with a diameter of 0.4-1cm into root segments 12-15cm long. Carry out cuttings in spring. When cutting, insert the roots while pressing the soil firmly to ensure the root segments are in close contact with the soil. Then, at a ratio of 3-5 kg per mu, water with water mixed with Yifuyuan planting bacterial liquid to preserve soil moisture. After the seedlings sprout, promptly remove excess buds and keep one strong bud to grow. In autumn, carry out grafting.
3. Seed propagation: Harvest wild hawthorn early, take the seeds and immediately scald them with hot water, then put them in the sun to dry. The specific method is to first wash the seeds in the hawthorn clean, then soak them in hot water at 60°C for 30 minutes, stirring constantly during this period so the seeds are heated evenly. Then take the seeds out of the water and soak them in diluted 300-500 Yifuyuan microbial nutrient solution cold water for 5 days, then take them out and put them in the sun to dry until the seeds crack.
If buying seeds, after bringing them home, first soak the seeds in water for one day, rub and wash them repeatedly, then soak them in hot water at 60°C for half an hour. After taking them out, soak the seeds in cold water for 5-7 days. After that, put the seeds in the sun to dry during the day, and continue soaking them in water at night, repeating until more than 50% of the seeds have cracked. Then carry out sand storage stratification of the seeds. The sand storage temperature should be controlled at about 0-5°C. After about 80 days of sand storage, germination can be promoted, and then they are planted in the field to cultivate rootstock seedlings.
