What planting density is suitable for peach trees? It differs by tree form
AbstractThe planting density of peach trees needs to be adjusted according to the tree form. If planting three-main open-center large-canopy saplings, the plant and row spacing is best controlled at about 3-5 m, and the planting density controlled at about 45 trees per mu. If planting Y-shaped saplings, the plant and row spacing should be controlled at about 2-4 m, and the planting density controlled at about 84 trees per mu.
Planting density of peach trees
Peach trees can be planted in spring or autumn, and their planting density can be adjusted according to the tree form. If the tree form is three-main open-center large-canopy, the plant and row spacing is controlled at 3-5 m, and the planting density controlled at 45 trees/mu; if the tree form is Y-shaped, the plant and row spacing is controlled at about 2-4 m, and the planting density controlled at about 84 trees/mu.
Distribution areas of peaches
Peach trees have strong vitality and strong adaptability to the environment. They originated in our country and are currently planted all over the world.
They are distributed in most areas of our country, mainly concentrated in the provinces of North China and East China; among them, the densest distribution is in Haidian District of Beijing, Kaifeng, Qingdao, Shangshui in Henan, Funing, Zunhua, Shenxian, and Linzhang in Hebei, Baoji and Xi'an in Shaanxi, Tianshui in Gansu, Chengdu in Sichuan, Dalian in Liaoning, Fenghua in Zhejiang, Nanhui in Shanghai, and Wuxi and Xuzhou in Jiangsu.
Grafting time for peach trees
Peach trees can be grafted from April to June each spring, when the peach trees grow most vigorously. After grafting, the wounds of the branches and rootstock can heal quickly, which can increase the success rate of peach grafting and promote vigorous growth of the peach trees later.
Grafting can also be carried out in late summer and early autumn from August to September. Although the wound healing speed at this time is not as fast as from April to June, the survival rate is still relatively high, but the ambient temperature after grafting is best controlled at about 15-20°C to avoid grafting failure.
Grafting methods for peach trees
1. Select branches
From April to June each year, choose branches that can bloom and are robust and free of pests and diseases, cut off all the leaves on the branches, and select a rootstock of the same family and genus as the peach tree to ensure that the branches and rootstock do not reject each other and to promote wound healing.
2. Connect the rootstock
Use a knife to cut the lower end of the peach branch into a flat shape, cut a 3-5 cm small opening in the rootstock, then insert the branch into the small opening of the rootstock, fix and connect the branch and rootstock with a plastic bag or rope, and place it in a cool place, keeping the air dry. Generally, roots can form in about 15 days, and after about 3 months the plastic bag or rope at the connection between the rootstock and branch can be removed; after the peach branch survives, it will grow wildly, so the main branches must be pruned in time to control growth and prevent the peach branches from being broken by wind.
