Clever Use of Herbicides for Alliums: Different Rates and Methods for Onions and Bulb Onions
AbstractIn the process of growing onions and bulb onions, rationally selecting and using herbicides can effectively increase yields, but at different growth stages, different herbicides must be chosen to avoid improper selection affecting yields. Seedbed: suitable to apply after sowing and before emergence. After transplanting: choose to apply after seedlings are planted and before weeds emerge; the application time should also be adjusted according to temperature. When temperatures are lower, it is best to apply at noon on a sunny day, and when temperatures are higher, apply in the morning or afternoon.
Clever Use of Herbicides for Growing Alliums
At present, the planting area of spice crops such as onions and bulb onions continues to expand. During cultivation, herbicides are used in combination to increase yields, but if herbicides are chosen improperly, it can cause reduced yield or total crop failure for the season, and can also affect the following crop.
1. Onion
When growing onion seedlings, 65-75 g of 50% prometryn wettable powder can be mixed evenly with 40-60 kg of water per mu and sprayed. After land preparation, before transplanting, and at the 3-4 leaf stage after onion transplanting, use 66-72 ml of 24% Guole or 80-100 ml of 43% Hancaoling per mu, each mixed with 50-60 kg of water for spraying.
2. Bulb onion
When growing bulb onion seedlings, 100 ml of 33% pendimethalin EC per mu, or 150 ml of 48% butralin EC and 150 g of 50% Herbicide No. 1 wettable powder per mu, can each be mixed with 50 kg of water and then sprayed. After land preparation and before transplanting bulb onions, 100-150 ml of 48% trifluralin EC per mu, or 200 ml of 48% butralin EC and 100-150 g of 50% Dahuili wettable powder, can be mixed with 50-60 kg of water and then sprayed.
After transplanting bulb onions, 100-150 ml of 33% pendimethalin EC or 100 g of 50% linuron wettable powder per mu can be mixed with 50-60 kg of water and then sprayed. To improve the effectiveness of herbicide application on onions and bulb onions, apply during seedling raising after sowing and before emergence, and after transplanting apply after seedlings are planted and before weeds emerge. Onions must not be treated with Guole during the 2-leaf stage, and Guole should be used cautiously before the 3-leaf stage. Generally, when temperatures are lower, apply around noon on a sunny day; when temperatures are higher, apply in the morning or afternoon. Do not apply prometryn when planting in sandy soil.
Types of Herbicides
1. According to how herbicides translocate within plants, they can be divided into contact herbicides, systemic translocated herbicides, and combined contact and systemic translocated herbicides.
2. According to their mode of action, herbicides can be divided into selective herbicides and non-selective herbicides.
3. According to application method, herbicides can be divided into foliar treatment agents, soil treatment agents, and dual foliar and soil treatment agents.
4. According to chemical composition, herbicides can be divided into inorganic herbicides and organic herbicides.
5. According to their mechanism of action, herbicides can be divided into growth regulators, photosynthesis inhibitors, amino acid biosynthesis inhibitors, fatty acid biosynthesis inhibitors, and cell division inhibitors.
