Four-Season Bok Choy Growing Method: Direct Sowing in High Temperatures, Sowing Then Transplanting in Low Temperatures
AbstractField selection and bed preparation: choose a sandy soil field that is pollution-free, sunny, and well-drained; adopt the narrow-bed, deep-furrow method and make beds 1.2-1.5m wide. Variety selection: choose suitable varieties; before late March plant late-maturing varieties, after late March plant early- and mid-maturing varieties. Fertilization: apply sufficient base fertilizer before planting; after emergence, on sunny days apply 1-2 topdressings of thoroughly decomposed dilute manure; stop fertilizing one week before harvest. Pest and disease control: inspect frequently, promptly remove weeds, and do a good job of pest and disease control.
Four-Season Bok Choy Growing Method
1. Field selection and bed preparation
Choose a field that is pollution-free, free of excessive heavy metal residues, sunny and dry, and easy to drain; the soil should be well-drained, loose, and fertile sandy soil; adopt the narrow-bed, deep-furrow method, keep the bed width at about 1.2-1.5m, and keep the bed surface level.
2. Variety selection
Varieties differ depending on planting time. If planting before late March, it is best to choose late-maturing varieties; if planting after late March, choose early- and mid-maturing varieties.
3. Fertilization
When growing bok choy on raised beds, there is more rainy weather in spring, which affects bok choy growth, so after the previous crop is harvested, plow the soil promptly and sun-bleach it. Growing bok choy mainly involves applying decomposed organic fertilizer; broadcast 4000 kg/mu of decomposed barn manure as base fertilizer; after emergence, on sunny days apply 1-2 topdressings of thoroughly decomposed dilute manure; stop applying manure fertilizer to bok choy 7 days before harvest.
4. Pest and disease control
During the growing process, promptly remove weeds from the field, use silver-gray shade nets to repel aphids, and use insect-killing lamps to trap and kill pests; inspect frequently and do a good job of pest and disease control.
Four-Season Bok Choy Seedling Method
When temperatures are relatively high, four-season bok choy is suitable for direct sowing; when temperatures are relatively low, you can sow first and then transplant.
1. Water the potting soil until moist, evenly scatter the seeds and fine soil over the soil surface, cover with a thin layer of soil, and mist the surface soil to keep it moist. They generally germinate in 3-4 days; if the temperature is relatively low, it takes about 7 days.
2. During the seedling stage, keep the soil moist. When the temperature is relatively high, water once each morning and evening. Two weeks after germination, when watering, spray once with diluted decomposed organic fertilizer.
3. When the seedlings have 4-5 true leaves, they can be transplanted and established. Adjust the plant spacing according to the size of the bok choy variety, generally about 15-20cm. After planting, water thoroughly and do a good job of shading. Once the seedlings adapt to the environment and survive, normal management can begin.
4. If transplanting is not needed, thin the seedlings promptly, pull out the larger seedlings, and make the seedlings evenly distributed. Thinning can be done multiple times until the spacing is suitable. After each thinning, apply 1 topdressing of decomposed organic fertilizer to the bok choy.
