Pleomele has an attractive plant shape and is an indoor foliage plant, suitable for placement in the living room and study. It is currently widely propagated across northern and southern China, especially in southern China in Guangdong, Fujian and other places. The cultivation methods for Pleomele are as follows:

1. Soil

For planting Pleomele, it is suitable to choose sandy soil with strong drainage and rich humus. Sandy soil has good drainage and is beneficial to plant root respiration. For pot cultivation, garden soil, leaf mold, peat soil and river sand can be used in a 4:2:2:1 ratio, or pond bottom mud can be dried in the sun and crushed, then evenly mixed with coarse river sand in a 2:1 ratio to make culture soil. For Pleomele with thick rhizomes, coconut coir, peat soil, or equal amounts of garden soil and river sand can be mixed to make culture soil.

2. Temperature

Pleomele is suitable for growing in an environment with sufficient light, dryness and ventilation. It likes high temperatures but should not be exposed to direct sunlight. It has strong adaptability to light; in a dark indoor room it can be displayed continuously for appreciation for more than one month; in a bright indoor room it can be displayed for appreciation for a long time. The suitable growth temperature is 10-33°C, the temperature during the dormant period is around 13°C, and the overwintering temperature must be above 5°C.

3. Humidity

Pay attention to ventilating Pleomele and keep the environmental humidity between 60%-70%. If the humidity is too high, it is prone to leaf spot disease.

4. Water

Pleomele does not have a high demand for water; generally, half-dry and half-wet is suitable. During the growing period except winter, watering once a day is enough; water consumption is low, and excessive watering will cause root rot and scorched yellow leaves. Appropriately reducing watering can not only improve its cold resistance, but also enhance soil permeability. In summer high temperatures, spray water on the leaf surface 1-2 times; in autumn and winter, control the amount of watering and keep the potting soil moist.

5. Light

Pleomele has strong adaptability to light, but is not tolerant of strong light. It should be placed indoors with sufficient light or given shade with a shade shed. Light should not be too strong or too dark; strong light will cause leaves to turn yellow and scorch, while too much shade will make leaf color dull and reduce ornamental value. Healthy Pleomele can be displayed continuously in a dark indoor room for appreciation for about 1 month; in a bright indoor room it can be displayed for appreciation for a long time.

6. Fertilizer

In the early planting stage, the root system of Pleomele is not yet stable enough. During the growing period, apply liquid fertilizer once about every half month, or apply compound fertilizer 1-2 times, to ensure luxuriant growth of branches and leaves. It is suitable to apply thin fertilizer and avoid concentrated fertilizer; if there is too much fertilizer and water, the newly grown leaves will shrink and fail to expand. For old plants of many years, apply once every 7 days; stop fertilizing after September, stop fertilizing in winter, and move indoors for winter.
