Potting soil: Keep the soil moist, and place the longan with its sprouting end facing up into the potting soil. Germination: After about 3-5 days in a shady spot, it will germinate. Transplanting: When growth becomes too dense, transplanting is needed; be careful not to break the roots. Temperature: Below zero degrees, longan is prone to frost injury. Management: It is best kept at 19°C-28°C, and in early spring 9°C-15°C is more favorable for flower bud differentiation.

1. Sowing

You can choose to grow longan seeds as a potted plant. First wash the eaten longan seeds clean and remove the flesh from them; water in which longan seeds with flesh still attached are soaked will stink, and the seeds will rot. Soak the washed longan seeds in water for 7 days, changing the water every day during this period. After soaking for 7 days, once the longan pit has cracked open, it can be sown.

2. Potting soil

Add a little soil to the planting pot, water the soil to moisten it, and plant the longan with its sprouting end facing up, arranged neatly at intervals, then cover the surface of the soil with a small amount of soil, water it thoroughly, then cover it with some stones, press gently with your hand, and spray water to moisten it thoroughly.

3. Germination

Then place it in the living room or on the desk and wait for the longan seeds to germinate; during this period there is no need to take it out to the balcony for sunlight. Generally after 3-5 days, the longan seeds will begin to germinate, but they will not yet push through the stone layer, so you can wait a few more days. Once the longan seeds germinate and grow to have dense shoots, water them during this period.

4. Transplanting

Longan growth is different from flowers and grasses. When growth becomes too dense it will affect their development, and at this point they need to be transplanted. First pour a small amount of water into the pot to soak and moisten the soil, then gently tap around the flower pot, and use your hands or other cultivation tools to gently pull out the longan seedlings. Be careful not to break the roots when pulling out the seedlings, then transplant them into another flower pot to grow.

5. Temperature

Temperature is very important to the growth, development and yield of longan. Generally the suitable temperature should be kept at 22°C-24°C. When the temperature is below zero degrees Celsius, longan seedlings are prone to frost damage, which affects their growth; when the temperature is below -6°C to -5°C, longan trees will suffer varying degrees of damage.

6. Management

In early spring, longan needs to be kept at 9°C-15°C to facilitate flower bud differentiation. When this temperature range is exceeded, the higher the temperature and the longer it lasts, the more easily longan trees will develop rampant shoots. During the flowering period, longan cannot survive in climates with lower temperatures and more rain. The most suitable temperature for survival is between 19°C-28°C, and when fruiting it is suitable to survive at 26°C-33°C, which helps promote the growth of longan branches and shoots, makes the sugar content of the fruit relatively high, and improves the quality.
