Cultivation methods for Spikenard (Japanese parsley): fertilize mainly with farmyard manure
AbstractLand preparation and bed making: deep plow the land about 25cm, apply high-quality farmyard manure, and make long beds. Planting: choose early to mid-June for planting, and water thoroughly after planting. Fertilizing: fertilize only after the seedlings have recovered, about once every 1 month, mainly with farmyard manure, and if conditions permit, apply biogas manure as a top dressing. Management: while ensuring temperature, do a good job of watering, weeding, and loosening the soil.
I. Land preparation and bed making
First deep plow the land about 25 cm, then apply fully decomposed high-quality farmyard manure into the soil at a rate of 3000 kg per mu, then make one long bed every 2 m, with the bed width about 1.5 m, height about 18 cm, length about 12 m, and bed spacing about 35 cm. If planting in a solar greenhouse, two micro-sprinkler water supply hose lines need to be installed at a height of 40 cm from the ground.
II. Planting
In early to mid-June, the seedlings can grow to about 8 cm tall, and then the Spikenard seedlings can be planted. Before planting, rake the bed surface level, set the hole spacing and row spacing, both about 9 cm, plant about 3-4 plants per hole, and when digging the furrow, try to reach a depth of about 15 cm. After planting, water thoroughly as much as possible, as this ensures the seedlings can grow better.
III. Fertilizing
Fertilizing can begin after the seedlings have recovered, with fertilizing once every 1 month, mainly with thin farmyard manure, about 1000 kg each time. If conditions permit, applying biogas manure as a top dressing is more beneficial to the growth of Spikenard. From early August to late September, it should also be sprayed 2-3 times with 0.3%-0.5% monopotassium phosphate, and given more sunlight exposure, which serves to promote root development and can increase root tillers.
IV. Management
1. When the light is strong, a shade net needs to be hung up, which can prevent sunscald disease and at the same time ensure the vegetables are fresh and crisp.
2. Then according to weather conditions, water it an appropriate amount, and each watering must be thorough. At the same time, during management, always maintain good surface moisture.
3. During the growth process, weeding and loosening the soil should also be done, and when loosening the soil the depth should be about 3 cm, and it must never be too deep, to avoid damaging the roots.
4. Throughout the entire growth process, Spikenard needs its temperature well controlled. For example, after the aboveground leaves wither, it will enter a physiological dormancy period, which requires low temperature to break, so at this time it needs to be covered with a basin film treatment, and the temperature raised at the appropriate time. If the temperature is raised too early, it will make dormancy difficult to break; if raised too late, the market time cannot be guaranteed.
5. In December, the ventilation time should be reduced as much as possible, with particular attention to nighttime insulation; in cold weather, straw mats can be used to regulate the temperature and humidity inside the shed.
