When Is Rice Planted? There Are Differences in Planting Times for Early, Middle and Late Rice
AbstractRice can be divided by production season into early, middle and late rice. Early rice is generally sown at the end of March and the beginning of April, middle rice is generally sown from the beginning of April to the end of May, and late rice is generally sown in mid-to-late June. Different time periods can also be chosen for planting rice according to different regions. For example, the area south of the Yangtze River generally plants two crops of rice: the first crop is sown in early April and harvested in early July, and the second crop is sown in early July and harvested in mid-October.
I. Rice Planting Time
1. Early rice
It is generally sown at the end of March and the beginning of April, and the harvest season is mid-to-late July. When the climate temperature is confirmed to be stable at around 13 degrees, sowing of early rice can begin. For example, the Yangtze River basin is most suitable for sowing from late March to early April. It is generally cultivated earlier and matures earlier, with a growth period of about 90-120 days.
The areas suitable for planting early rice are mainly distributed in the south, such as Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong and other places. The rice produced by early rice is also called early indica or early rice. Usually the taste of early rice is poor, and it is often used for industrial grain or reserve grain, etc.
2. Middle rice
It is generally sown from the beginning of April to the end of May, and the harvest season is mid-to-late September. Middle rice is suitable for planting in most areas, and its development varies greatly depending on the region and climate. Its growth period is generally about 120-150 days, and the seedling raising methods are mainly wet seedbeds and two-stage seedling raising. The taste of middle rice is the best compared with early rice and late rice. The areas suitable for planting middle rice are mainly distributed in most parts of our country except Guangdong, Qinghai and Hainan. The main producing areas are Hunan, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Heilongjiang, Hubei, Yunnan, Chongqing and others.
3. Late rice
It is generally sown in mid-to-late June, and the harvest season is early-to-mid October. Its growth period is relatively long, and its maturity period is relatively late. Its growth period is about 150-170 days. Its taste is not as good as middle rice, but better than early rice. The areas suitable for planting late rice are similar to those for early rice, and it is also mainly planted in the south.
II. Rice Planting Process
1. Before planting rice, the seeds must be soaked. Soak the paddy seeds in water for 2-3 days, and once small white sprouts appear, they can be taken out. The soaking time is determined by the temperature. If the temperature is high, the soaking time is short; if the temperature is low, the soaking time is long.
2. Place the paddy seeds with white sprouts in a bamboo basket and spread them out evenly, then cover them tightly with plastic film. Once longer white sprouts have grown, seedlings can be raised in the paddy field.
3. Before raising seedlings, the paddy field must be plowed and harrowed. There must be a lot of water in the paddy field, and the water must cover the seeds. As the saying goes, no water means no rice.
4. About half a month after raising seedlings, when the seedlings have grown to about 10 cm, they can be transplanted.
5. Before transplanting, related work such as storing water in the paddy field, plowing the field and harrowing the field must be carried out. After the field work is completed, the seedlings can be pulled and planted.
