AbstractSowing and planting: Radicchio is generally grown by sowing. In an environment with side shading, choose slightly acidic soil for planting. During planting, keep the soil moist, apply fertilizer reasonably, and strengthen winter management. Hydroponic planting: You can leave a small space on the balcony to build a rack. For the first planting, a half-soil, half-water method can be used. Hydroponic radicchio does not need fertilizer and is simple to manage, but direct sunlight should be avoided, and insulation should be provided in time when the temperature drops.

I. How to grow radicchio

1. Sowing and planting

Radicchio is generally grown by sowing. It should be planted in an environment with side shading and in slightly acidic soil.

When digging up seedlings for transplanting, the soil needs to be kept moist, but not waterlogged. After applying base fertilizer at planting, fertilizer needs to be applied every year. The amount of fertilizer can be determined according to specific conditions, and then strengthening winter management is enough.

2. Hydroponic planting

(1) First, leave about one square meter of space on the balcony, then build a flower rack of a suitable size, and you can carry out hydroponic radicchio cultivation. Hydroponic radicchio has relatively fewer pests and plant bacteria, does not need any fertilizer, is relatively simple and convenient to manage, and is healthier to eat. If growing hydroponic radicchio for the first time, a half-water, half-soil method can be used for cultivation, and after gaining some experience, proceed with hydroponics.

(2) The half-water, half-soil cultivation method means that half is water and half is soil. First spread a layer of leaf mold at the bottom of the planting container, then add water. Radicchio is quite averse to light, so be sure to shade it during planting. Radicchio must not be exposed to strong direct light. You can cover the container with a black plastic bag for shading. Radicchio is afraid of cold, so if the temperature drops, you can use cotton or cloth to keep it warm.

(3) When radicchio grows to about 15cm, it can be harvested. It generally grows to maturity in about 3 months after planting. When harvesting, be careful not to pull out the roots together. Just use a knife to cut the place where the root and stem connect. Leave the root in the water, and new seedlings will grow again in about 60 days.

II. Planting prospects of radicchio

1. Radicchio is a relatively high-end vegetable. It contains a component found only in wild lettuce, has relatively strong disease resistance, basically has few pests and diseases during planting, and does not need pesticide spraying. It is a relatively green, healthy, and safe vegetable, mainly supplied to airlines and large supermarkets.

2. Radicchio is not only edible but also has certain medical value. It helps clear the liver and promote bile flow, relieves hangovers, and aids weight loss. Regular consumption can also reduce fat and cholesterol levels in the body, which is very beneficial to human health.
