AbstractLand preparation and fertilization: For Anemarrhena asphodeloides, choose humus soil with good drainage and loose texture, apply sufficient base fertilizer, then deep plow and make beds. Propagation methods: seed propagation or root division propagation can be used. Later management: after sowing, keep the soil moist; when the seedlings grow to about 7-10cm, they can be planted out. Water sparingly in the first year, increase watering frequency in the second year, pay attention to timely drainage, and fertilize reasonably. Per-mu profit: growing Anemarrhena asphodeloides yields about 4400-5000 yuan per mu.

I. Land Preparation and Fertilization

For growing Anemarrhena asphodeloides, choose a sunny site with loose soil and good drainage, using humus soil or sandy loam. Apply about 2000-3000 kg of decomposed barnyard manure per mu, together with about 30 kg of phosphate fertilizer and about 40-50 kg of cake fertilizer, broadcast them evenly into the soil, deep plow about 20cm, then level and make beds about 130cm wide.

II. Propagation Methods

1. Seed propagation

(1) Generally, Anemarrhena asphodeloides is sown in April in spring or in October-November in autumn, with a sowing rate of about 1-1.5 kg per mu. Autumn sowing has a relatively high germination rate and produces uniform seedlings.

(2) In the prepared bed, open furrows at a row spacing of about 30-35 cm and a depth of about 2cm, then sow the seeds evenly into the furrows, cover with soil, press firm, and water promptly to keep the ground moist. Seedlings emerge in about 20 days.

2. Root division propagation

(1) Spring planting is generally carried out after thawing and before sprouting. In the prepared bed, dig holes at a plant spacing of about 15-20cm and a row spacing of about 30-35 cm, with a hole depth of about 7 cm. The amount of rhizomes planted per mu is about 90 kg.

(2) Remove the residual underground stems, leaves, and fibrous roots of Anemarrhena asphodeloides, then break the rhizomes with buds into sections about 4-7 cm long. Place one section in each hole with the bud pointing upward, cover with soil, and water promptly. Before planting, the water can be watered thoroughly, but the bed should not be too wet to prevent root rot.

III. Later Management

1. After sowing, the soil needs to remain moist. Seedlings emerge in about 20 days. When the seedlings grow to 3-4 cm, loosen the soil and remove weeds. When the seedlings grow to 7-10cm, thin them to a plant spacing of about 15-20cm.

2. During the seedling stage, if the weather is dry, water promptly. Because Anemarrhena asphodeloides grown by rhizome division grows relatively slowly in the first year, water sparingly. In the second year it grows rapidly, so watering frequency can be increased. In hot and rainy seasons, be sure to drain promptly to prevent waterlogging.

3. When the seedlings grow to 15-20cm, apply 20 kg of superphosphate and 10 kg of ammonium sulfate per mu. Open furrows between the rows and, along with loosening the soil, bury the applied fertilizer into the soil. If seeds are not needed, cut off the flower stems promptly.

IV. Pest and Disease Control

Anemarrhena asphodeloides has relatively strong disease resistance. Its main pest is white grubs, which damage seedlings and rhizomes. Targeted use of pesticides is sufficient for control.

V. Per-Mu Profit of Anemarrhena asphodeloides

The growth cycle of Anemarrhena asphodeloides is two years. Each mu yields about 1500-2000 kg of fresh product, which becomes about 400-500 kg after processing into dried product. At market prices of about 2.8-3 yuan per kg for fresh product and about 11 yuan for dried product, the per-mu profit is about 4400-5500 yuan.
