Potting and planting: Place broken tile pieces at the bottom of the pot, sprinkle in an appropriate amount of coarse sand and nutrient soil, cover with soil and firm it after planting, water thoroughly and then cover with plastic film. Water and fertilizer management: Apply foliar fertilizer in small amounts multiple times, water once in the morning and once in the evening in summer, water every other day in autumn, and do not water during dormancy unless the soil is dry.

Guiren fruit is a Rosaceae apple, belonging to ornamental trees, widely used in roadside construction, state-owned enterprise construction, etc. It bears fruit in two years. In mid-March, purple flower buds begin to swell, and in April it enters full bloom. After flowering, fruit sets, and new leaves are red with a glossy sheen. The fruit matures in September, with a diameter of about 5cm. The whole fruit is red, with a slightly sour taste, and its market value is relatively high.

Cultivation Methods for Guiren Fruit

1. Choosing a flower pot

For potted Guiren fruit, you should choose wooden barrels, clay pots, or wooden boxes that are inexpensive, have good permeability, and are good for root growth, with round-shaped flower pots being the main choice. The most suitable container material for growing Guiren fruit is an unglazed clay pot.

2. Making your own substrate

(1) You can choose 2 parts river sand, 1 part decomposed sheep manure, 6 parts fertile mature soil, and 1 part each of fermented horse hoof fertilizer and rotted leaves. Mix them evenly in proportion, then sieve.

(2) Choose 2.5 parts sandy soil, 5 parts compost soil, and 2.5 parts garden soil, then add about 0.5-1 kg of 25% NPK compound fertilizer per cubic meter, and mix thoroughly.

(3) 1 part plant ash, 3 parts humus soil, 4 parts garden soil, and 2 parts fine sandy soil. After fully mixing them evenly, grind fine and sieve.

3. Potting and planting

Before planting, first select a few broken tile pieces and place them at the bottom of the pot, then sprinkle in a layer of coarse sand, add an appropriate amount of nutrient soil, place the seedling into the pot, let the root system spread fully, then add enough nutrient soil, firm it, water thoroughly, and finally cover with a layer of plastic film.

4. Water and fertilizer management

(1) Because the root growth of potted fruit is somewhat restricted, in order to meet the nutrients needed for fruit tree growth, water and fertilizer management must be strengthened. Guiren fruit should be mainly fertilized with organic fertilizer, combined with an appropriate amount of quick-acting fertilizer, and can be applied according to the principle of applying less but more frequently, together with foliar fertilization.

(2) During the growing period, Guiren fruit can be given diluted organic fertilizer liquid, applied once every 7-10 days or so. In the early stage, it can also be applied alternately with organic fertilizer liquid and urea solution about 2-3 times. In order to meet the nutrients needed for plant growth, in September an appropriate amount of nitrogen-potassium compound fertilizer can also be applied as a top dressing, with 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate and 0.3% urea applied as foliar top dressing.

(3) Potted Guiren fruit must keep the potting soil moist. Water immediately after it dries, but do not overwater. In summer, water once in the morning and once in the evening. In autumn, water every other day. During the dormant period, the amount of watering should be controlled, as long as the potting soil is not dry.
