After sun-drying for 1 week, pile the seeds. Before sowing, disinfect the seeds with formalin. After seedlings emerge, fill in gaps promptly. In the later stage, drain water promptly, cultivate and weed, and prevent and control pests and diseases. Sand ginger planting time: around the Spring Equinox or Qingming each year.

I. Planting Time

Sand ginger is generally sown around the Spring Equinox or Qingming. It should not be sown too late, otherwise excessively high temperatures will affect the seed germination rate.

II. Land Selection and Land Preparation

1. To plant sand ginger, first choose dry land, paddy fields, sloping land, and other land types. The soil should have good drainage and irrigation conditions, be fertile and loose, and the planting site needs a warm climate, relatively short sunshine duration, abundant rainfall, and so on.

2. After selecting the planting site, plow the soil and let it overwinter. Once the soil layer has weathered, it can be planted. About 15 days before planting, plow the soil, then sterilize and disinfect it. You can use carbendazim powder and 50% amobam, mixed with about 400 kg of water. After 2-3 days, spray it evenly onto the soil while plowing and cultivating.

III. Selecting Sand Ginger Seeds

1. Before planting, select fully mature sand ginger with thin skin, no diseases, uniform size, and relatively hard texture as seeds.

2. Take the harvested sand ginger seeds to a place with sufficient sunlight and sun-dry them for about 1 week, then store them in a well-ventilated place for piling. A layer of lime can be scattered on the ground, then pile the ginger seeds. The pile height should not exceed about 17 cm. To maintain ventilation, it is best to keep the door open often.

3. Before sowing, the seeds also need to be disinfected with formalin for about 20 minutes, then dried in the sun before planting.

IV. Reasonable Planting

1. To increase sand ginger yield, reasonable close planting should be carried out, with about 20,000 plants per mu.

2. When planting, the row spacing can be about 16.5 cm, the plant spacing about 20 cm, and the planting depth about 10 cm per plant. About 2-3 sand ginger seeds can be planted per hole. The planting amount per mu is about 125-150 kg. They can be arranged in a triangular pattern with the buds facing both sides, then covered with fine soil.

V. Reasonable Fertilization

1. When planting sand ginger, sufficient base fertilizer must be applied, together with an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer or decomposed farmyard manure. It can be applied by furrow application or mixed application.

2. When sand ginger seedlings emerge, root-topdressing and watering fertilization methods should be used, applying a small amount of fertilizer, which is more conducive to normal sand ginger growth. After mid-October, the fertilizer amount can be appropriately increased, with about 7.5 kg applied per mu. After the Autumn Equinox, fertilizer can be applied once every week, spraying 2-3 times each time, which helps increase yield.

VI. Replanting Missing Seedlings

After sand ginger seedlings emerge, check the emergence situation promptly and fill in missing seedlings in time. To ensure full stands, an appropriate amount of fertilizer can be applied. If the soil is compacted, loosen it promptly, which is more conducive to seedling emergence.

VII. Later Stage Management

1. In the later stage, field management needs to be strengthened. If water accumulates in the field, it can easily cause sand ginger root rot and sand ginger blast disease, so drainage must be carried out promptly.

2. Generally, cultivate and weed in May and September. When cultivating and weeding, try to avoid damaging the sand ginger root system to prevent pathogen invasion. June-August is the peak period for sand ginger diseases, and weeding should not be done at this stage. The main focus should be on pest and disease control.
